Questions about blow drying hair....

Having had mine done at the hairdressers lately, i was amazed at how glossy they get it compared to when I do it.

I'm reasonably good at styling it ( long layers, shoulder length, straight hair) but it looked so much shinier when they did it.

I know the 'rule' is to use the dryer pointing down the hair shaft, use a cool heat etc but anything else?

Do you use a blow drying spray? I used to but gave up as they felt sticky.
Do you use any special shampoos for colour treated hair? (Mine has a few highlights but is 90% my natural colour.)

Any other tips?

I think I probably break many rules doing this but I always get a better blow dry and sheen if I do it upside down. ConfusedI just put my head between the knees and use my brush and angle the hair dryer so it's going hair shaft down.

I find it so faffy and long doing it the right way up, my arms kill after a short time.

I do sometimes use a heat protector spray when it's feeling a bit dry.
