What items do you think are necessary for a minimalistic capsule wardrobe?

I don't think there can be one definitive list: it has to fit your needs so therefore varies depending on lifestyle, taste etc. Have you looked at the Curated Closet - it's about working out how to create the wardrobe that works for you - an excellent resource (and no, I have no connection to the blogger.)

For me it's enough clothes to mix and match 4 work days in a row without doing laundry, so a couple of pairs of dark trousers (I have navy and brown), 4 tops/ tunics, couple of smart jackets/blazers. A versatile pair of shoes/boots in a colour that goes with the trousers (mine are dark red) & decent work bag.
Outside work I have 5 pairs of jeans, 2 jumpers, 2 relaxed jackets, 5 tops/tunics and that's it.

Still have quite a few scarves, hats etc and a couple of non work bags and less formal shoes/boots.
Writing it down seems like a lot but doesn't look much in the wardrobe.
