Brazilian blow-dry after care

I'm four weeks post-Christmas Brazilian blow-dry. Initially I was delighted that it really does do what it promised: managable hair, vastly reduced drying and styling time... But now...

I have to wash my hair every other day, otherwise it looks lank (I am normally a twice a week hair washer). Is this normal?

Can I dye it / touch up my roots? Or will the dye strip off the stuff that makes it so smooth?

Will it start growing out from the roots downwards? I presume so, but what does this mean in practical terms - half lovely and swishy, half frizzy hair??

If I go for a hair cut, presumably I have to check that they use sulphate free shampoo: do most hairdresers have this now, or should I take my own? (Will they think I'm mad if I turn up with my own products??)

I would ask the salon where I had it done, but I don't live there anymore...

Hair colours shouldn't affect it. I have to use salt-free shampoo, not sulphate free, but you could always take your own shampoo in to the hairdressers.

It sort of gradually 'fades' out of your hair, so you shouldn't get a line of half and half hair.

Oh - I'm pretty certain that the hairdresser told me "sulphate free", but I've just looked at the label of the shampoo that I spent ages tracking down and one of the ingredients is sodium chloride, which is salt, isn't it? Does this mean I've spent a month washing out my (very expensive!) hair treatment.....?

I had it done last year and I found it hard to come to terms with the lankness and no volume and extra washing too. I was told sls free and I read about salts too but my hairdresser didn't say about avoiding salts.

Maybe I'll be OK then, Schwighty... It's frustrating because on one hand it really does do what it says on the tin re being more manageable and reduced styling time - but that's just as well, given how often I need to wash it!

Have you tried the Amazon DIY brazilian blow dry product? Much cheaper than a salon treatment.

I've been having my hair Brazilianed for several years now. I noticed the last time I had it done it was lank the next day and mentioned to my hairdresser. She said possibly they've messed with the formula? But then after 3-4 weeks I found it settled down and now can leave it for a couple of days.

I've always used L'Oréal shampoo as my hair is coloured too.

I meant to add that I've always had to wash my hair more than twice a week so perhaps as you say it's a case of you getting used to it as the benefits outweigh the extra washing!

And yes definitely NO sulphates as they will strip the treatment!

I use moogoo as that is SLS free and pretty natural! My hair isn't half swishy-half shit as it grows out, I just seem to notice ALL of it goes back to being shit after six months. I've had mine done every six months now for two years and it is amazing. I don't need to straighten it and I don't get split ends!

When you book your hair cut check what brand they use- Kevin Murphy is popular in salons and is SLS free.

I haven't tried DIY stuff, but I might be tempted to when this one wears out - then it might matter less if I don't look after it properly!
