I just can't find a good foundation!!!

I use max factor lasting performance but I just don't think the color is right for me. I've asked the sales assistants to help me find a Colour that matches my skin but the ones I tried so far was boots colour match one and benefit, both are more expensive than the one I currently use and I'm not convinced they look much better.

I really do want a new one but not sure if maybe I need one that is less heavy than the one I use now and then might just give me a nice glow? Someone said to me they think the foundation I use Kind of takes away my natural expression I'm just so lost as to what to try next and don't want to waste money on one that isn't worth it! Any ideas?

How much coverage are you looking for and what's your skin type? There are two I use. For a bit of coverage and more of a glow type thing everyday, it's MAC Face & Body foundation (this is still
quite buildable cover wise). For more coverage and special occasions, it's NARS Sheer Glow.

I've used cheaper brands for years usually mixing the palest with the second palest. I got the colour right on my own but with enough coverage I was looking a bit chalky or something. Not excessively but I didn't like it.

But recently a chanel sales assistant matched me to shade 30 and it is perfefct. Lumiere.. I find it lovely. The plan was i'd only wear it on special occasions but I'm wearing it every day now. Whoops. It is expensive so ask for a sample if they will oblige.

I love the Chanel perfection lumiere velvet too. Make sure you shake the bottle really well before applying each time!

If you're after a lighter more natural coverage have you tried bare minerals? I've used this for years now but recently tried laura geller too (which is same sort of thing but less mess) and love that

I think maybe im not sure how much coverage I need perhaps the one I use now is too much coverage so might need lighter, my skin isn't oily but I do get a few spots sometimes apart from that I have normal type I think as it not oily or dry

And yes I would only buy an expensive one if I can try a sample first as I don't want to be stuck with one that's not my colour

Also what do you put on top? I usually put max factor powder on top but I wonder if that adds to the foundation not looking my colour

As long as you're applying your powder with a brush it shouldn't make much difference to your colour.

i dont know what your budget is but i tried a cheaper one rather than a premium brand and have been blown away, even dh has noticed! ive used it 2 weeks now and bought it when i was off over xmas so had more time to sample.
www.boots.com/en/LOreal-Paris-True-Match-Foundation-30ml_1727639/ its lovely and spread-able and light but still covers well. its a medium coverage i'd say. if you dont like it, its "only" a tenner which is much more palatable than say £20 - 25 on a higher end one.

Does Lorel have sales assistants that help you find the correct color? I always find that the hardest part?

I use Revlon Colourstay and love it. It lasts well, even more so if you use primer and setting spray (nyx has a good, inexpensive range) Revlon also does pressed powders (which match the shades of their foundation). I've found that it's best to apply foundation with a beauty blender or even just my hands and powder with a kabuki brush.

no, its just on a stand in the aisles, i checked them all out for a good 20 minutes. its worthwhile working out by trying loads that look in the general direction if your colour. i tried them on my wrist and worked out which faded in best but didnt lighten/make me pale.

So I've just tried on a maxfactor colour correcting cream which is dry light coverage and my skin looks less clogged! Maybe it's the level of coverage that's the issue and not the colour

I agree with budgetsbonus. I struggled for ages then discovered True Match, I think my shade is Vanilla Rose and was astonished how good the match was. I think the key for me was figuring out that I had a cool skin tone, even though to most people they would know this already.

If you want to be matched you usually have to go to the dept stores and you can ask for a sample to take with you.. I prefer high end when it comes to foundation.

Op I think you have 2 issues going on, no1 the Max Factor lasting performance can be very thick if applied incorrectly, especially if you are loading powder on top. No2 you need to find your true shade. Do you suit gold or silver? If gold you are warm, if silver you are cool. Take a look on the L'Oréal website and it should list the cools and the warms. Go to boots with a mirror. Pick up a few and try 3 or 4, do a streak of each (quite thick) on your jaw line and walk outside the shop. Which one looks almost invisible? Which ever one it is is the one for you. I've used Max Factor lasting performance and it's very flat looking. Not too flattering. It kind off blends your features in to one beige blob.

I find that certain brands just don't have a colour that matches my skin, so I just move on. I've been searching for ages and recently discovered Bourjois serum foundation and also Guerlain Lingerie de peau.

I wear gold and yes I think I am a warm! I went to the lorel counter and the lady there helped me pick a colour! I thought binit looks ok but will take a few days to know for sure!

I have quite pale skin and have made the mistake of going to drak before.

You have to walk out in the natural light then look at it for an hour or so and then decide.

Estée Lauder double wear light. I sometimes swap but always end up going back to it. It's fab and long lasting.
