Didrikson's women's Lina Parka sizing; very confused

I'm a UK size 14 ... for context, the regular Barbour (Pier style) coat in size 14 fits perfectly.

I've found the Didriksons Lina parka coat on one website for £220 - that website gives the sizes in UK sizing, i.e. size 14 etc.

However, I've found it elsewhere for £180, but the sizing is European, i.e. size 38, 40, 42, etc.

I've done loads of googling and I've found different sites convert size 14 to 40 or 42. Does anyone know which is correct please? I've not tried the coat on in real life, so I'm hoping the look and size is similar to the Barbour parka style coats.

Also, how does the sizing of Didrikson's come up - big or small or true to size?

I think their coats come up slightly generous. I'm an 8-10 but bought the 34 (which the website said was an 8) in my Didriksons coat. It's a parka style one and is fantastic, I adore it (and I live in rural North Scotland so have exacting standards!)

I'm a 5ft 9in 10-12 on top, 12 bottom and I have a Didriksons Mary Parka in a 40 which fits perfectly. The 38 was too tight and the 42 was too big.

I would say you need a 42

FishChipsAndBeans · 11/01/2017 20:03

Thanks motmot. So if a 34 is a size 8 for you, then that makes size 14 = 40 I think.

I'm glad you rate them as fantastic Smile. I do a lot of dog walking and I've been trawling the internet for aaaages trying to find the perfect coat with big pockets for various dog paraphernalia, waterproof, warm, with a hood and fairly stylish looking.

Black for £165??
looked to see the shape - it's very like my Mary so on the streamlined side of Parka's so def think a 14 will be a 42 unless anyone else has a Lina?

FishChipsAndBeans · 11/01/2017 20:04

Ohhh just as I put a size 40 in my basket as well, chocolateteabag!!

42 is equivalent to 16. 44 is an 18 so I would say you need a 40

FishChipsAndBeans · 11/01/2017 20:07

It was the navy one I was hankering for. It's £180 on Amazon.co.uk.

On Amazon for £170 in Olive here

Mine is fab - saves my life dogwalking and watching DC's play sport

There is also one on ebay in Navy for £127 (shop not private seller) but it doesn't say which version - similar to Lina but not exactly

massive shopping enabler

Chocolateteabag · 11/01/2017 20:17

ok my hips/bum at the widest bit measure 41" and the 40 fits great. The 38 was difficult to do up.
Will go and measure my coat

Chocolateteabag · 11/01/2017 20:21

ok - laid flat my coat measures 21.5" across - so 43" round. So it fits me with a fist inside but not much more.

this is the one on ebay

Chocolateteabag · 11/01/2017 20:25

Hope that is of help Fish - the ebay seller has a chart which has 14 as a 40 looks like they are a physical shop in St Albans so maybe call them and ask re sizing?

Chocolateteabag · 11/01/2017 20:29

last one from me their website

Sorry if I have muddied things for you! My Didrikson is a 40 and I'm a 12 bottom is all I can say.

Hope you get the right fit!

FishChipsAndBeans · 11/01/2017 20:38

Chocolateteabag, I officially crown you a shopping NINJA.

Thanks for all the links and thanks so much for measuring your hips and your own coat as well.

You've really helped with your descriptions of how it fits you. I'm a size 12 top and size 14 bottom, so it's time to get the measuring take out next!

Star Thanks
