Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

How annoying, the gold mask is sold out! That is how they reward us for going on and on about it!? Angry Indeed I was having a look at the INCI of the blueish one... but the gold looks so much better Wink

Sorry you are still attached to the duvet Sad and that you missed the skating. Hope you have some lovely oils burning in your oil lamp to make it a bit more bearable Brew.

I also thought autumn could benefit from an oil (PM and even from one single drop in the AM under moisturiser, seeing it's so dry now) and eventually from one of the nice AB night masks/ packs.

Itsautumn · 23/01/2017 12:44

Sorry Bo, I should have filled in the form! Budget wise ideally no more than £30 -£50 pounds.

botemp · 23/01/2017 12:54

Were you thinking the Naruko Magnolia Night Gelly and Clarins Lotus Oil too, Aurora Grin we're so predictable

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 23/01/2017 13:17

You know me so well bo Star ... or the Gekka, though we haven't tried it yetGrin

AuroraPolaris · 23/01/2017 13:25

Coincidentally I have to RP the Lotus Oil soon... can't understand why they don't send it to me. Even my phone knows to capitalize Lotus Oil on its own accord!!!

botemp · 23/01/2017 13:46

Yes, whose brother was it again that was going to send us stuff from Japan. I've been sitting here waiting on my Gekka Pack for quite some time now.

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 23/01/2017 14:14

And they should send you some nice stuff to smear on your chest to chase away your cold!

Itsautumn · 23/01/2017 14:38

Thanks ladies!

EnidButton · 23/01/2017 14:47

Love the dupes thread bo going to get some of that hair stuff. My head feels like yours does now, all the time (m.e + pots.) and the trick is to write everything down as soon as you think of it, although hopefully you'll be feeling better soon. So just rest. Flowers

I need to buy nice things today so will start with the hair stuff and then move on to make up. Lancôme spring rose collection is looking nice but Dior and Guerlain usually so the nicest packaging.

EnidButton · 23/01/2017 14:48

Maybe something you've eaten Mint?

EnidButton · 23/01/2017 14:56

Bought the trial size (£7) colorphlex to use in a conditioner so hope it works like it would in a hair dye. Sounds good.

Elixiam · 23/01/2017 17:16

I was just going to post that my face theory moisturisers arrived yesterday and I love them, but still feel like I need a little more moisture, would the above oils be suitable for me too? (35, mildly combination, some fine lines) I am using up my rosehip oil at the mo but open to other ideas.

Also my TO vit C, retinol and Nia are arriving shortly, how should I introduce them? All at once or one at a time?

I bought the Nip Fab acid pads on Thursday, both kinds in case the Extreme were two strong but I've used the Extreme twice now and it's been fine so far.

I'm loving the difference in my skin already! So excited to see what the TO products add!

Pupsiecola · 23/01/2017 18:06

Does anyone know if Philip Kingsley shampoos and conditioners are sulfate and silicone free? I've been looking for ages and can't seem to confirm either way. Never tried the brand before. Thanks.

AuroraPolaris · 23/01/2017 18:07

Elixiam indeed if you can and want to purchase the Clarins Lotus Oil I think it would suit your skin, though it is a very different oil than the rosehip one. Which brand do you use?

Pupsiecola · 23/01/2017 18:08

Elixiam definitely introduce the new products one a time. I think the general advice is to leave 4 weeks between introducing another new product (with the exception of cleansers).

AuroraPolaris · 23/01/2017 18:09

Enid which one did you get exactly? I might be interested in adding it to hair dye, so keep us posted as to results

botemp · 23/01/2017 18:12

Well the Naruko Night Gelly is an asian overnight sleeping pack/mask, mostly an intense hydrator. Only the Clarins is an oil, Elixiam, and provided you have no issues with fragrance it's a perfectly fine one to try (but it'll add nourishment in the form of oil, not water based hydration). So it sort of depends what you're missing with the current moisturisers, but since you're using SubQ and FT moisturisers I'm assuming you're missing a bit of extra oil rather than hydration.

Introduce things slowly, two weeks apart. You've only just started on the nip & fab pads and the moisturisers so wait that out first. Then I'd suggest Vit C in the AM (most likely to be stinging or irritating) - two weeks- Nia at in the PM - wait two further weeks - introduce Retinol

OP posts:
botemp · 23/01/2017 18:17

*wait two weeks that should say, so product 1 - wait two weeks - product 2 - wait two more weeks - product 3.

I think there are some sulfate free products from PK, Pupsie, but the line as a whole isn't iirc. I want to know too Enid, I keep forgetting to look up what is in those oloplex treatments and wondering if my hairdresser will regard me with damnation if I do it myself...

Lego - I did that porosity test, forgot to put the glass away and my hair was still on top of the water the next morning BlushBlush
I googled and found a girl who's using I am coconut co wash and Shea moisture conditioner and has the same hair type so going to try those. I've used the co wash before and the conditioner was next on my list

JDSTER · 23/01/2017 19:10

pupsie I've got PK moisture balancing shampoo and conditioner given as gifts. Shampoo has TEA-lauryl sulphate and dimethicone as ingredients and conditioner has dimethicone too.

Pupsiecola · 23/01/2017 19:18

Thanks guys. I managed to find the INCI on the M&S website. I was really interested in the remoisturizing shampoo and conditioner but sadly the shampoo has sulphates :-( Another option my research has thrown up is the Burts Bees Baobob shampoo and conditioner. I think I will try these. I might also try just the PK conditioner but it's messing with my head, using a shampoo and a conditioner from different brands/ranges (I know I know. Took me a while to accept I could choose not to do this re skincare too). I also like the look of the PK Minimiser. I've done quite a bit of reading around hair types this afternoon. I'm either 2b or 2c. But my hair is very dry again and I wonder if I've been using the wrong products on it, so as with skincare, I'm trying to find something which suits.

Pupsiecola · 23/01/2017 19:20

hollin snap. Are you able to link to the products you're going to try, please?

Pupsiecola · 23/01/2017 19:23

Arghhh the PK styling cream I wanted to use is full of rubbish too. I'm beginning to wonder if I care lol. Perhaps they're necessary to get the desired results.

RubyGoat · 23/01/2017 19:26

Hollinhurst - my hair does that too, & so does my DD's. Non porous is generally good, indicating not much damage. Usually means naturally shiny as the cuticle is pretty smooth. I used to CO wash (despite having straight hair) - my hair loved it; my scalp, not so much. It increased my (already significant) shedding. A lot of people are fine with it though.

EnidButton · 23/01/2017 19:29

This is the colorphlex I got www.amazon.co.uk/Colorphlex-Hair-Color-Strengthening/dp/B00YNKGP02?tag=mumsnetforum-21 Thought for £7 is was worth a try. Been looking at the Olaplex system for a while but it was too £££ to buy online without sampling first. Thought I'd just mix it in a basic conditioner/mask like the Aussie 3min one. I'll let you know if it's any good.
