susannahmoodie, I think I'm as confused about your skin type as you. If I had to guess, combo with dehydration. Have a read and confirm for yourself. Are you suffering from acne too, since you tried the triacneal?
In general, standard advice applies to you; you need an SPF, BHA and Niacinamide for oil control. If you're wearing heavy duty coverage makeup you need to be using an oil based cleanser to take it off. Garnier micellar is already a known breakout suspect for many, but micellars in general really are not suited for anything more than an eye makeup remover or emergency. Definitely not a first cleanser. You'll need some form of a hydrating serum but as I've no clue what your skin is really like, I don't really know what to recommend either.
Tsmummy08, no need if I do end up buying with them I'll get the lower strength one, I much prefer a 15% Vit C and with the low-ish pH that feels a better bet for me.
Elixiam, a little bit more 'natural' (and therefore less scary with DC, you can have whatever opinion you want on Mineral Oil in my book but if you're close to accidentally ingesting it, I get rather worried) but great for children, especially with their toxic saliva affected skin is the Weleda Weather Protection Cream, Boots seem to sell it online, not sure if they sell it in store also. It's like vaseline with added restorative ingredients but not MO based.
Pupsie, removing with a flannel may be the issue? Officially DHC needs to be emulsified before removing but those with dry skin may find that a bit strippy so flannels work best in that scenario.
Was I really that bad lol? I remember you telling me that whilst I was in Boots purchasing some Toleriane cleansing milk and trying to make a quick decision on the range's moisturisers to take advantage of the 3 for 2. I think that's what you were referring to
.
You're all this bad when you're bright-eyed, new, and all bushy tailed. It's like the first sign of a skincare junkie, thinking they must all buy it now, as surely it'll run out or something... also, exceptionally gullible to all sorts of claims as they're somehow convinced they know a little bit of the science, therefore know everything about good skincare now so anything they take a fancy to must be a good^ product, right? Sorry, you're all still in nappies
TweedyF, look into a BHA to use in problem areas (suggestions for products made many times over by now, start with the samples and 2-3x a week before gradually increasing use). You'll need to use it in conjunction with an SPF, which is advisable anyhow.
mrslebon, you can use the Vit C every day provided you tolerate it well, it is slightly exfoliating (ascorbic is an acid) so if you're not used to it you made need to build up tolerance to it. If you're getting the Nia too remember not to use in the same routine as the TO Vit C, so one in the AM and one in the PM.
Salty, if the redness is still persisting it probably is good to see a professional, despite changing some of your routine you switched to gentler products so the reaction is indeed very odd.
A general note on the use of forms, I instated them because people have questions related specifically to them and without a broad context it's hard to advise sometimes. I tend to respond to most forms on an input level basis, if you've given me very little to go on there's very little I can say in return, this has nothing to do with a knowledge level of skincare on either side, but with the level of detail you take to explain your issues and skin type. Again, I'm not psychic or telepathic, I don't know what you don't tell me.
I know there is some trepidation and threshold anxiety with some lurkers to use them and I really don't want to discourage anyone or kill the courage you've been building up so far to post one. The form and help related to that really has been set up to help those with more complex and unusual issues, but, if it's a simple question, eg. what type of products should I be looking for to battle blackheads and spots? ask that and don't bother with the form. If I find I need more info to help out with a simpler question I'll point you to using the form.
^ This is not a dig to anyone or about a specific poster or posters, this happens continually and I get that there can be some confusion as sometimes I won't respond to a question and point towards using a form and sometimes I answer forms very elaborately and sometimes very succinctly. As a general guideline - if it's specific to you and only you and you are struggling with your routine, use the form. If you're really struggling with your skin and products are not working for you and you really need an overhaul, use the form. If it's a general thing that applies to more than you but may be product specific to you, think twice before using the form. The worst that can happen is that I'll ask you to use the form instead.
