Haircare products from salon vs Boots etc

I was at the hairdresser yesterday and had the usual polite tussle about me not purchasing the haircare products they sell - implication being Im lucky my hair doesn't fall out by using something like Wella rather than the 20 quid a bottle stuff they sell. But it did get me thinking because actually I don't go for the economy stuff for my face or my clothes particularly. Am I missing a trick? While my heir always smells nice after the hairdresser I dont notice any other difference.

If you don't notice a difference I wouldn't bother, unless your hair is going through some sort of 'repair', that the products would take a little time to set right.

I have to buy salon because since I first experienced kerastase 15 yrs ago i knew instantly that it really changed my hair for the better, like a huge improvement in shine, smoothness, etc (i have fuzzy problem hair which i straighten).

I really would need a 'WOW OMG!' moment to convince me to buy any expensive salon stuff.

I wish they sold kerastase in boots because it would make my life a bit easier;)

I have been hustled into buying salon shampoo and conditioners before and honestly...they have never been worth it! My hair is just fine with any old cheap, fairly gentle shampoo and Herbal Essence conditioner .

However, I have discovered some great styling products through my hair salon that are MUCH better than bog standard high street stuff.

In my experience, salon products last longer. A little drop goes a long way.

My husband used to use Kérastase shampoo for his dandruff and sensitive scalp and for a couple of years it was the only product that would work so well worth the money.

My salon is great; they never force any products, in fact, apart from the fact they're on a shelf beside the wash basins, you wouldn't know they sold them.

I don't know which shampoo or conditioner they use on my hair (as I can't see from the basin position!) They've never told me. As the OP says, they smell great. The only other thing they seem to use is a little blob of strawberry-scented polish after the blowdry which I don't object to but would find too sticky and heavy for everyday use (and the smell would probably annoy me after a while!)

I use a salon brand, not the one my salon uses but I wouldn't use the cheap stuff again.

I realised a few years ago that I don't have good hair without help.

Yes, would be much easier if they sold it in Boots, I'd probably give it a ho then.

My hair is definitely better with salon products, but then my hair is difficult and needs all the help it can get.

I've bought Paul Mitchell in the past (especially The Conditioner ) I'm considering revisting it (its a leave in conditioner so would save me time too)

Not a salon one , but I love Aveda. I bought a 1 litre Clove then a smaller one of Shampure (they didn't have a litre in stock) really saves buying loads of bottles that'll end up in the Beauty Hoard.

I've bought salon shampoo and conditioner before. But I found the Organix range from Boots/supermarket to be just as good, and it's a lot cheaper. Luckily my hair doesn't seem to mind what I use.

I buy sulphate free Revlon 2 in 1 from my hairdresser and I am so happy with it. I must admit I bought it the first time as the hairdresser said I needed it but I tried others since and I went back to the Revlon.

a fierce - I am suffering with seriously frizzy thick hair which I straighten everyday, and as a result it is now breaking and looking awful.
Which range do you use? I had a quick look on their site. But wasn't 100% sure which products to go for?

Salon products have always turned out to be an expensive mistake for me. I'm sticking with John Frida. The trick is to find what suits your own hair. Kerastasse leaves me full of static but friends rave about it.

I go to an Aveda salon, and alternate between their shampoo/conditioner and Liz Earle's. If I go away and use something else for a couple of days, my hair looks and feels crap.

I have bought many over the years, starting with Redken twenty years ago!

I hardly remember the names of them but used many including a number of Keratase products. Tbh I never found ANY particular difference between any of the salon products.

The best product I have ever used for my (dry) hair is a treatment from Lush called H'Suan Wen Hua.

I use Kerastase shampoo and I have to say it's made a difference to my scalp and hair, others have noticed a difference too and asked what products I use.
I do find cheaper products make things deteriorate.
However I hate paying salon prices so I buy it on eBay!
