Online glasses-Lens thinning?

I've finally decided to get some new specs and have some on home trial order from glasses direct as I was seduced by the 2 for £19 offer. I'm -4 in both eyes and can't decided whether I need to fork out for lens thinning, super lens thinning, or if I will be ok with non thinned lenses. It was that long that I bought new glasses I can't remember if the ones I have are thinner or not

So do I risk the milk bottle look if I don't pay the extra? Don't want to have to pay if I can help it (cheapskate emoticon)

you need to go into a physical opticians to see one of the demonstration lens sets I think to make a decision. I always pay for the most expensive option because I'm plus 8 in one eye (a little less in the other), and even with this they are still pretty thick

Thanks, that's a good idea, although I think I'd feel a bit cheeky asking in a proper ship knowing I was then going to buy online

Ask the online place they can tell you how thick the lens would be

I am pretty much the same prescription and have bought from Glasses Direct a few times. From memory they offer a variety of lens thinning packages, and I went for the middle one after talking it through with one of their customer service people. She said there was about a millimetre in it between the middle and top based on my prescription. The type of frame you pick makes a huge difference, as if you have heavy frames, then any distortion/thickening at the edges of the lens won't show up, whereas in thin wire rims it would be really obvious. (I wear lenses day to day though, and my glasses are just for home/emergencies - I probably would have sucked up the extra cost if I wore them every day, in all honesty.)
