Static help needed

I was planning to wear a top this evening, which I've worn before without issue, but after having it on for 2 minutes it's full of static and clinging to my festive rolls / muffin top in a most unflattering manner.
Is there a quick and easy way to get rid of the cling or shall I just opt for a new top?

I use hairspray on static items, hold the can about 12 inches away and give a light spray. Always works for me. Some people run a wire coat hanger over static but for me it's not as good.

A friend who worked in casinos where all the women staff had to wear evening dress 24/7 told me to rub a little hand cream or body lotion into my hands then pass my hands over the staticky areas. Always works like a charm.

A tumble dryer sheet works best, I rub it all over the inside of the top/dress or tights I'm wearing. Works on hair too.

Thanks for the replies, I ended up wearing a different top but useful to have a few tips up my sleeve for the next time I try and wear it
