pastel hair toners - any experience?

Hi. I've just had my hair dyed pastel mauve yesterday in a salon. well around that colour anyway.

i know it will wash out and am happy with that however i would love it to stay this colour for new year and realise i will have to wash it that day.

now it is only £10 to have the toner applied in the salon which is fab but i was hoping to mix something similar at home to keep on top of it if and when i please.

if anyone has pastel hair, what do you use?

i am debating crazy colour with conditioner.

just invested in some kerastase stuff as hair is ruined from the bleach

Any one of the bright colours from manic panic/directions etc diluted with cheap white conditioner will give you a pastel toner.

It's all a bit experimental with the ratios depending on how much colour you'd like but there's loads of videos on YouTube to give you an idea.

is there any particular retailer that is best? i think a mix of violet and pink would do it.

Directions, manic panic and SFX are stocked in most hair supplies shops, I get them from Amazon.

Go careful when you pick your shades as they all vary from each brand and the different pinks and purples are made from different base colours. Some purple dyed can be made up of more blue and others are more red. I've even used a plum which was more green in the end.

Whatever colour fades to is a good indication of what it's base colour is. More about colour fades and base colours in this post.

do you know if the directions completely washes out? it doesnt look like manic panic always does.

i dont want to be stuck with mauve hair for too long it was just one of those things i had to try.

Superdrug do some nice colours (can't remeber the brand sorry) and you can buy a pasteliser with them. I use them to keep my red vibrant between full dyes.
Mauve sounds lovely.

ive used directions loads of times and it normally all washes out. if it doesn't just use some head and shoulders shampoo to get rid of the last bit stuck in

Some will stain but if you're diluting it for a pastel it'll wash out completely.

It was done in a salon with proper dye but im paranoid the first day i wash it its going to.fade loads as i wanted it to stay as it is for new year.

looks nice! time to stock up on dry shampoo

I use Bleach brand it comes in different colours but I like rose or the purple best you can get it in boots. Only prob I find is that it takes to the most bleached bits of your hair and can in contrast make the less processed bits like roots seem more yellow.

thank you. i rang the salon this morning as i thought i might just go in tomorrow for it washed and another toner on so it was vibrant for the night.

hairdresser said should barely fade and to wash with purple shampoo and leave on for 10mins so im going to do that and hope it sticks. i think with it being an actual dye with peroxide she is probs right. fingers crossed!

i did look into bleach london because i love their colours but their reviews are so mixed it put me off.

The ones from Superdrug are great. They're called colour freedom and you can get a pasteliser to mix the colour with the dilute it, they smell lovely too!

I use the Bleach London shampoo and conditioner which keeps my pink highlights quite pink. I think they do a mauve, too.

Their toner itself is not amazing, though.
