WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp PROPER, week 1 - Feb half term to April

WideWebWitch · 18/02/2007 19:52

Hello, this is week 1 proper of a new 10yy six week boot camp. Anyone who did boot camp lite last week, as I did, may want to be very strict with themselves this week although I suppose it depends on when your half term is and whether you are working through it or away or something.

The rules are:

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can, I am booking out lunch hours where possible to do this
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible. I am doing my heels daily too as they're lizard like
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

You don't have to report back every day but I almost certainly will as it motivates me thinking someone is watching me.

Welcome all members old and new.

Glad you had a nice evening Winnie.

I totally forgot this morning and had a latte - small one though. Didn't have time for breakfast between 3 school runs so I'll count it as that and focus on the calcium in the milk

Very healthy lunch though and will have steamed fish and whatever veg left in the box tonight.

I'm giving up alcohol and chocolate for Lent. Chocolate is no problem as I've hardly had any since Christmas .

WideWebWitch · 21/02/2007 18:07

Yoyo, well done on good day yesterday, hope you have a lovely night.

Winnie, me too, I look and feel DREADFUL, I really think my body dislikes sugar and white bread and wine too. We need to learn our lessons don't we? Glad it went well with dh.

Marina, good on bike and walking, exceelent. Have you tried granola, it's very nice, much less hamster food like I think. I have it witohut milk though, not keen on milk.

Well done puddle on feet and food

Oh no batters re cat! £125! Blimey. I can't do points either.

Welcome mumbojumbo, you will feel better. Swedishmum, chocolate and alcohol, ewww!

I drank wine last night and went to sleep at midnight, which was too late.

Oh well
but today

Granola
apple
100 cal of prawns
a red pepper dipped into a dollop (not a huge one) of hummus
a few walnuts, pine nuts and brazils
a few dried cranberries
a 233 cal Kitkat and an Americano
walked half an hour with sunscreen at lunchtime
and we're having M&S rosemary crusted sea bass tonight with veg and no wine
plenty of water
and I MUST have an early night, I look really really knackered and like a crone with the pox

Haven't done much exercise for two days as I can't on my working days. Also had pancakes for breakfast yesterday and have had a little red wine each evening.
But have had lots of water, salad stuff, oily fish and lean chicken, small amount of fruit.
Talking about the Brownies Batters, I'm feeling nostalgic as dd has gone up to Guides already - how did that happen
She's the youngest there at the moment and thinks it's completely fab.

puddle · 21/02/2007 22:03

Ok I have done well on the food today.

Porridge
Apples, satsumas and bananas
leek, chickpea and potato soup
quorn sausages, mash green beans and peas.

Loads of water.

BUT three glasses of wine (two post work with colleague who needed them!)

Am about to go to bed though. Night all

winnie · 22/02/2007 09:17

Other than a late night, yesterday was back on track. Hurrah!

yoyo · 22/02/2007 10:21

Brilliant day - walked loads and was saintly with food.
Dreadful night - lots of wine, chips with meal (not very nice so left most), and bed in the early hours.
No plans to go out for ages so am putting it behind me.

DinosChapman · 22/02/2007 10:22

I walked for an hour yesterday, but had an enormous pizza for lunch and had a bottle of beer and two glasses of wine last night!

But it's going to be a dry night chez Dinosaur this evening.

Caribbeanqueen · 22/02/2007 10:25

Mixed success here - have done a little bit of exercise and cut out most of the crap, but I still have a little bit of chocolate in the evenings to keep me sane.

Not too brilliant with the water but still better than before.

No wine since Sunday.

Porridge for breakfast with fruit, healthy home-cooked meals in the evening but finding it hard to give up my cheese habit.

Have lost a couple of pounds though, so not too bad for the first week.

theheadgirl · 22/02/2007 10:48

I've had a rubbish time, vomittng kids, loads of washing. Thankfully, not had the bug myself, but yesterday, got them finally all off to school and thought I'd have a nap - woke up 3 hours later!!! And I was still tired at bedtime. So today i'm going to try and look after myself, drink lots of water and get 5(ish) fruit and veg. Might give myself another day before I try any exercise though....

jeangenie · 22/02/2007 12:48

thanks for welcome WWW, so half a stone should be easy? great!

I must say I am finding it a real help to be part of this, even though I don't/probably won't post all that much (extremely busy at work and too knackered most evenings). It helps keep me on the straight and narrow just knowing you are all out there attempting the same things and I do like the healthy attitude here, that it is about more than weight loss, makes it much less depressing for me to have that kind of positive spin...

Anyway, gushing over...
yesterday fabbo day - took day off work and took kids to Richmond park to see the deer. Loads of walking and loads of fresh air (well, as fresh as possible with the planes overhead) Shared sambos with the kids and had juice for lunch (no cafes to be found)
healthy dinner of homemade chicken & veg casserole, no wine
couple of plain biscuits
unfortunately had to watch Desperate Housewives so not in bed until 11.01pm (in pjs and all ready for bed first though, which I woudn't have done previously)

today branflakes w/milk, OJ and grapefruit for breakfast
some tea, some coffee at work to wake up
last nights casserole blitzed into soup and a wholemeal pitta with chicken and rocket for lunch
more water than usual
SPF on face, body lotion on body (well, lush body bar as I find it easier)
no exercise yet but will aim to walk a bit on way home tonight

best for me (apart from the water thing) is thinking of WWW's guidelines coming up to 10.30pm - I ALWAYS used to stay up to late but I find this great for motivating me to get gone and stop loitering (god can I loiter coming up to midnight!!!)

keep up good work everyone

arfishy · 22/02/2007 13:32

Well, on the plus side, I've booked (and paid for ) flights back to the UK. Don't even ask me how many all-inclusive 3 week holidays in Fiji I could have got for the price of flights back to the UK, because it's enough to make me cancel and say 'bugger relatives'.

So, This means that I have 10 WEEKS to look as gorgeous as I can possibly manage, bearing in mind that I'm still 1.5 stone heavier than I was when I left the UK 2 years ago (despite my 1 stone weight loss courtesy of WWW).

So, annoyingly, if I lose another 1.5 stone I will appear back at home exactly how I left. Serves me right for being a takeaway eating bloater I suppose.

jeangenie - Thank you! Although I'm in Sydney my house in the UK backs onto Richmond park & you've just reminded me to take DD there to see the deer when we come home.

I'm still following the plan of course. Today, when I was getting my lunch out of the fridge I got purred at by a rather nice looking Frenchman (they are a rare species in Sydney). 'Eez zat your lunch' he said. 'Yes' said I, throwing it all over our hairy carpeting. 'Eet is verrrrrrrrry healzy' he said. Me (picking up pieces of salad from the floor 'er, yes' .

WWW - I've not tried the tan stuff yet - I realised that I was going to go swimming and wasn't entirely convinced that I wouldn't go green or something. I'm going to try tomorrow morning, as I don't have to go into the office and can orange-streak myself with abandon if necessary.

Lol at Arfy and coming back at the same weight you left. But at least they won't all say 'oooh, she's let 'erself gooooo' at purring Frenchman.

Jeangenie, I think of you all a lot and knowing I will have to post how I'm doing means I am far, far, more likely to do it. Glad you're finding it helps, honestly, you will lose that weight easily.

theheadgirl, hope you all feel better soon. Lots of us have established that doing this means you don't feel as bad even when you're ill.

caribQ, v well done on wine front, and food, excellent. Cheese is fine!

Dino, did you do no wine? Well done on walking.

Yoyo, quite, put it behind you and move on!

Well done winnie. Keep it up.
Puddle, v good on fruit and veg.

Cam, agree with batters wrt to the wine and good on the food front.

I've had an ok day:

Granola
apple
a few walnuts, pine nuts and brazils
a wholemeal pitta (120 cals) with 2 slices proscuitto (70 cals) and french mustard, no butter or spread.
a whole yellow pepper in a dollop of hummus
another apple
lots of water
walked 30 mins with sunscreen at lunchtime
laughed a lot at work
used body lotion AND flexitol
had a reasonably early night - 11 ish
and NO BOOZE last night. I feel loads better for it

dh is out tonight and I am off to hairdressers in a minute so once I am back and he goes out I will take my make up off, get into bed with the laptop and some books so it'll easily be a no booze early night. Will prob have fishfingers and peas for supper.

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 22/02/2007 17:31

not having too bad a week - yesterday was ok, although I did indulge in one of dd's chocolate fairy cakes.

Lunch today I was very proud of - homemade (get that!) 'spicy lentil soup' with celery, carrots, onion, lentils, cumin and turmeric. I 've made gallons, so will be eating that for some while to come...

Not so great on the exercise front, or the wine - dh didn't get back till 11 last night, and having had 5 children all day, I really needed a glass of wine . Took the children to gym this morning, and was more shattered than they were, which says something about my fitness I think!

Mumbojumbo · 22/02/2007 18:17

Not too bad today:

Walked into local town and back in the peeing rain - 15 mins each way. Walked to and from school 3 times - 10 mins each way.

Had fruit salad and l/fat yogurt for brekkie and scrambled egg with spinach, courgette and spring onion. Also had some cous cous and chick peas on the side (yum!). Just had smoked salmon and spinach sandwich with cottage cheese.

Also dug out suncream although I think it got washed off in the rain! Will be having an early night - dh is working late to just have to get boys to bed and then I can chill. Managed to get The Food Doctor Everyday Diet and You Are What You Eat Cookbook in the local charity shop today for £2.00 each so that's my bedtime reading. Would have been nearly £30 new.

Motivated for tomorrow now....

CAMy · 22/02/2007 20:18

Today: spent most of it sitting down as went to watch dd swim at an IAPS meet in Crawley.

Had one mouthful of a nut and seed bar for breakfast (no time) and a tiny tuna salad for lunch (cafe at Crawley K2 swimming centre)and a small amount of organic spaghetti and tomato sauce and parmesan with dd for supper (dh still en route home).

Lots and lots of water, one oj, one coffee.

Will have some red wine when dh gets home.

Must exercise tomorrow

Course you can Celia2, sorry about the health scare but maybe this'll help from a helping you feel you're doing everything you can/calming pov. It's a be nice to yourself sort of thread. Welcome.

I went to bed at after 11in the end as dh didn't get in until 10 and we talked for a while but no booze last night and fishfingers and peas for supper so I feel fine this morning. Well done everyone, nearly the end of week 1 proper. Although I've only done 3 days of it really and I my sister is here tonight and I am going out tomorrow night so I will drink both nights. But will try to walk/drink water to mitigate the damage.

A good day yesteday generally. Aim to do the same today but really want an early night. DH has been working late so stay up for a quick chat and before you know it it's midnight.

Batters - good luck getting DD to eat the healthier stuff. I quite like it but can't get the DC or DH to eat it. I do find that if I haven't eaten it for a while it makes my stomach feel quite uncomfortable. A bit like bread actually.

winnie · 23/02/2007 09:47

Yesterday was an ok day again. Not enough water and no exercise though. Also had 2 glasses of wine again last night
Will try harder.

Batters, we all eat brown rice and wholewheat pasta in this house and quite honestly prefer brown rice to white now. I must admit I can't eat as much brown/wholewheat as white so that has to be a good thing. Good luck

Well done everyone

puddle · 23/02/2007 11:05

Reporting in aagain.

I did ok yesterday, especially as I was training all day (usually a time for me to scoff down biscuits all day) so was v proud of myself.

Porridge and banana for breakfast. Am beginning to get used to skimmed milk.

Went to luch at leon in Carnaby street and had the most fantastic superfood sald - full of good stuff and even made quinoa tasty.

Spinach pepper and chickpea curry for supper with rice.
Two glasses of wine but a ton of water and green tea through the day - have discovered I like green tea so will be drinking more of that and less earl grey.

Feeling good today and looking a lot better skin wise - less puffy faced too.

Plan next week is to knock the wine on the head in the week (DP has been on leave this week so he's been in a party mood most nights). Also up my exercise a bit.

Batters we also only eat wholewheat pasta and rice at home - I can't eat white rice now - it's way too pappy.

Good going everyone.

MrsPhilipGlenister · 23/02/2007 11:08

No booze last night, and did body cream after bath.

CAMy · 23/02/2007 11:40

Dh and I have now decided to give up drinking alcohol at home during Lent (starting slightly late I know).
Wish me luck

Today have had a tomato omelette for brunch and will do lots of housework today for exercise.

Feelgood factor: had a long, nice, telephone conversation with my mother who is in hospital recovering from a back operation. Made her laugh a lot.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy weekend.
