Am I too young for this coat?

Got a coat in the sale and also had a voucher so it was a bargain. I really like it and think it suits me (am hourglass size 10). Only thing is it's Jacques Vert which my sister tells me is a "mother of the bride" type brand, to put it mildly, and having googled it seems she is right!

So mumsnet jury, what do you think? Can I wear this? I'm 32...

My DH likes it and argues I could just cut the label out.

It's a lovely coat, firstly. I think it all depends on how you style it. You could funk it up with skinny jeans and dm's if you think you're looking too mother in law ish!

FireAndStrife · 15/12/2016 18:03

I like it!

I wouldn't think to look at that range as it's definitely aimed at the older lady but I like it all the same!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 15/12/2016 18:09

It's a classic mac style. Won't date. You like it, have it :)

Oneday · 15/12/2016 18:10

I think it could work really nicely. Nobody would think, I don't think "Ah, but that's for older women" looking at it. Just because the brand is aimed at a different age bracket doesn't mean individual items scream that from the rooftops.

Floisme · 15/12/2016 19:07

If I can wear H&M at 60, I don't see why you can't wear Jacques Vert.

Funnily enough I saw a dress in Debenhams the other day that, from a distance, I thought was Ted Baker but turned out to be one of theirs. So maybe they've been to cool school recently.

Have you seen it in real life? I'm only asking because sometimes stuff from these brands looks fine online but when you try it on, the cut or the length or the small details (or lack of) instantly dates it. Otherwise wear that label with pride Smile

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2016 19:10

It's a classic style, that anyknebif any age could wear.

GoofyTheHero · 15/12/2016 19:11

I'm 32 and I like it Smile

Looks pretty classic to me - if you're a curvy hourglass shape I bet it will make you look amazing. Good scarf bag and boots will stop it looking frumpy.

Rumtopf · 15/12/2016 19:20

I'm 37 and I've got one very similar in grey. Very flattering cut and not aging I don't think.

burnishedsilver · 15/12/2016 19:20

It's hard enough to find nice clothes without dismissing entire brands. Judge each item on its own merits. The coat is lovely. It's a great find in an unlikely spot.

LuluLovesFruitcakes · 15/12/2016 19:20

I'm 24 and wear similar coats...normally with leather trousers/skinny jeans, combat boots and an upturned collar and scarf ;)

specialsubject · 15/12/2016 19:20

who is going to see the label unless you put it on inside out?

Doobigetta · 15/12/2016 19:35

I think that's lovely. Really elegant and classic shape.

BabyHamster · 15/12/2016 19:35

Phew! Thanks everyone. Flo yes I have tried it on and it looks lovely (if I do say so myself Blush)

Special yes that was my DH's argument, he found the whole thing quite bizarre and suggested I just cut the label out if it bothered me!
