My experience of hair Extentions is they must match perfectly and if that means changing your hair colour then so be it.
When they come out they take a lot of hair with them, this for me counteracts any growth that may have occurred whilst they are in. And for me it means weekly blow dries as I can't deal with that length hair myself.

Great lengths appear to be as good as Extentions get though, a few footballer wags I know have them and they look good until you get up close

Hi new, thanks for the info. Do you find they tend to separate into strands easily after brushed?

Tbh they do unless you get a micro beaded one piece, all on one weave but still secured on micro beads. I've got to be honest I wouldn't have them again, I've never seen any you can't tell are fake.

I've got extensions, they look natural have used the same brand for years and they've helped my hair grow...

What can I help with? Grin

Hi sparkes, mine are taking a LOT of brushing as they keep seperating into their individual bonds and looking a bit ratty. I did a proper blow dry yesterday and they did look better. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Should I be putting more conditioner on them or some kind of oil on the ends? They look very blunt and the ends are quite dry after only a week.

What brush are you using ?

Sparkesx · 14/12/2016 14:51

Hey,

Firstly, what brand of extensions are you using? I used to have this problem until I switched to BeautyWorks. I only have the braided weave method, this seems best for my hair as it's thin. Having my extensions in has made it grow longer and thicker. Cheaper extensions are no good and will break, dry out and frazzle. It's worth forking out a bit more, they'll last longer.

Secondly, what shampoo are you using? Is it Sulphate free? Sulphate ruins hair extensions and makes them break/dry/ratty which makes it so difficult to brush when wet! I never realised Sulphate did this.

Here's what I do when I wash my full head, had my extensions in three months and they're still in fab condition. Yes you absolutely should be using oil! Extensions have no natural oils so they'll be going dry! I'll include links of what I use to the bottom of the post, it may seem expensive but they last ages and are a necessity. You might be able to find similar cheaper.

  1. Brush hair thoroughly to remove any knots/lugs before I get in the shower.
  2. I'll lather my hair in Sulphate free shampoo and rinse thoroughly.
  3. Lather my hair in LOTS of conditioner and leave it in for three minutes whilst I wash the rest of my body then i'll wash it out.
  4. I'll apply another loads of conditioner and concentrate on the ends.
  5. Wash out.
  6. Towel dry and use a tangle teazer brush slowly and gently.
  7. Rub lots of oil and hair protection onto my hair.
  8. Blow dry and style as normal. I won't need to wash my hair fully for another week, maybe longer.

I'd reccommend getting your ends cut off, you don't need a blunt cut but there dry bits will look loads better cut off.

here's a kit to everything I use and that you need

hair brush

oil

Please feel free to PM me about any other questions. I love extensions, had them for eight years! Blush xx

I have a tangle teaser which the salon sold me - I find it's not deep enough so I've also been using a flat paddle brush.

I'm using the shampoo that it made by the hair extension company. The extensions are great lengths which I thought were supposed to be one of the top brands with the most % of human hair.

I've been washing every morning because that's what I usually do with my hair - it's very fine and gets greasy very quickly.

So, wash with shampoo that came with the extensions and then pur conditioner on the bottoms only and brush through.

Then blow dry as usual or blow dry roots and allow ends to dry in a plait or something - the hair seperates more if I allow it to air dry

I'm going back to the salon next week to have the bonds checked and I will ask her to put some more shape in and make the ends look less blunt.

I suspect it's because you're washing them so often. My hair is also really thin and gets greasy so easy. Extensions helped train my hair out that routine... Just top up with dry shampoo, it'll look flat whilst it gets used to it but after a few weeks will be fine.

Extensions shouldn't be washed every day, can you just wash the top of your hair/head? That's what I do with mine. Don't leave the ends to dry naturally make sure you blow dry them.

I'd go back to your hairdressers and ask for advice, after a week they shouldn't be dry. Mine only go dry after about six months!

Keep putting oil on after a wash, after it's styled and top ups in between.

Newbrummie · 14/12/2016 17:11

I never washed my hair once in the 3 months I had them in. They don't "do" anything so no need to wash them at all in my opinion.

sweetheart · 15/12/2016 10:58

When i had the consultation i told them I wash my hair every day and they said it would be fine to continue doing so Sad i hate not washing my hair - it's all itchy and horrible

It is fine, in theory it's just hard work and the Extentions wear out quicker, you've all the disadvantages of them
Not being real hair and none of the advantages of that makes sense
