Hey,
Firstly, what brand of extensions are you using? I used to have this problem until I switched to BeautyWorks. I only have the braided weave method, this seems best for my hair as it's thin. Having my extensions in has made it grow longer and thicker. Cheaper extensions are no good and will break, dry out and frazzle. It's worth forking out a bit more, they'll last longer.
Secondly, what shampoo are you using? Is it Sulphate free? Sulphate ruins hair extensions and makes them break/dry/ratty which makes it so difficult to brush when wet! I never realised Sulphate did this.
Here's what I do when I wash my full head, had my extensions in three months and they're still in fab condition. Yes you absolutely should be using oil! Extensions have no natural oils so they'll be going dry! I'll include links of what I use to the bottom of the post, it may seem expensive but they last ages and are a necessity. You might be able to find similar cheaper.
- Brush hair thoroughly to remove any knots/lugs before I get in the shower.
- I'll lather my hair in Sulphate free shampoo and rinse thoroughly.
- Lather my hair in LOTS of conditioner and leave it in for three minutes whilst I wash the rest of my body then i'll wash it out.
- I'll apply another loads of conditioner and concentrate on the ends.
- Wash out.
- Towel dry and use a tangle teazer brush slowly and gently.
- Rub lots of oil and hair protection onto my hair.
- Blow dry and style as normal. I won't need to wash my hair fully for another week, maybe longer.
I'd reccommend getting your ends cut off, you don't need a blunt cut but there dry bits will look loads better cut off.
here's a kit to everything I use and that you need
hair brush
oil
Please feel free to PM me about any other questions. I love extensions, had them for eight years!
