All you city people...

Am from the sticks, but love clothes and getting dressed up.

Visiting London with dcs and meeting friends for casual "posh burger" style eaterie.

What sort of thing to wear?

Also to the pantomime hackney empire next night...??

Definitely casual if you want to fit in - jeans with favourite tops and boots. The burgers in posh burger joints may be posh, but dress definitely laid back. Ditto for Hackney Empire I'd think.

Thanks, need to get out of my let's get dressed up mentality 🙂

Dressed up as in top, stylish accessories, great knitwear, boots / shoes that go with jeans type trousers , then. Not frocks and heels.

SixthSenseless · 09/12/2016 22:41

And remember Londoners use public transport and walk a lot: comfy and practical outfits.

MissWillaCather · 09/12/2016 22:44

Yes, good point. Will have heeled boots on but quite walkable.

Sigh, real,y need a chance to get dressed up, but this is not it, I see.

Knitted casual dress/coloured opaques/comfy boots is my winter out-and-about uniform, for dinner, drinks, gigs etc. Am often the 'most dressed up' in the group who will be more jeans & jumpers, but don't look silly next to them!

polyhymnia · 10/12/2016 00:23

Yes you could, OP.

Statelychangers · 10/12/2016 08:23

Jumper dress with boots will look fine. Key is not to look try-hard. I love a posh burger, have fun!

sleepwhenidie · 10/12/2016 08:30

Aw I'm disappointed for you OP Xmas Sad. I was coming on to say whatever you like, then saw the word 'burger' Xmas Hmm.

You would look a little foolish in sequins and heels but could definitely go with something like a ruched me&em style dress or jumper dress with opaques and boots.

Floisme · 10/12/2016 09:26

I know nothing of London and their funny little ways but I do know that there's not enough dressing up in the world.
It may not be a special occasion for them but it is for you and I think you should wear whatever your heart tells you. Plus shoes you can walk in.

MissWillaCather · 10/12/2016 21:26

Thanks all!

TBH, a burger place, no matter how posh wouldn't be my choice, but got to be done..

I do like to dress up, up don't want to look too like from the sticks.

Have this miss selfridge fancy jersey dress so will do with thick tights and boots...

I intend to spend the entire last week of school runs dressed up. Sequins, velvet and heels.

rightknockered · 10/12/2016 21:35

And I live in London

MissWillaCather · 10/12/2016 21:37

😀 maybe will pretend I'm just a rightknockered Londoner and stop worrying

Oh, I'm just doing it for the school mums. Really looking forward to the head swivelling and double takes...
(I have now turned this into a different type of thread..)

MissWillaCather · 11/12/2016 16:32

I've just come back from 2 nights in London, including dinners in Covent Garden, a play and a musical. Everyone was in jeans, boots, knitwear, scarf and a coat or leather jacket.

MissWillaCather · 11/12/2016 18:24

😢thanks, I'm never going to get a chance to dress up!

But at least I'll fit in, thanks for the tips.

Maybe I should go to Newcastle next..!
