Make up storage?

How do you keep your makeup? I'm struggling to tidily keep my vast collection of nail varnishes, eye shadows and other random birchbox acquired bits and bobs.

Its overflowing and i can't find ANYTHING, and as my jewellery box is underneath, it means everything is falling all over everywhere.

Can anyone suggest anything?

What about a vanity case?

I saw some clear plastic drawers in primark a couple of weeks ago, there were two drawers in each set and were stackable. I regret not buying a few sets to put my make up in.
You could put eyeshadow in one/lipsticks in another but still find things easily as it's all see through.

I think muji have similar.

dannyglick · 09/12/2016 17:22

I have a cutlery tray in the top drawer of my dressing table, to help keep my make-up in order.

ilovecherries · 09/12/2016 17:42

I was just swearing about this an hour ago. In the short term I've flung everything into one of those see through plastic boxes you can buy for shoes, but I'd like something more elegant and organised.

CointreauVersial · 09/12/2016 18:09

I have a tray in my top drawer - a bit like a cutlery tray, but it has deeper/squarer compartments. It came from somewhere random like Clas Ohlsen. It's brilliant for seeing what I've got.

DD1 has a clear plastic organiser which sits on her desk.

Muji is good for this sort of thing.

Gingefringe · 09/12/2016 18:15

I've had my eye on this from Boots for a while but it's out of stock at the moment. I think Superdrug do something similar.

BusterGonad · 09/12/2016 19:38

That NYX one is amazing!!!!

ilovecherries · 09/12/2016 21:53

Oh well, inspired to at least attempt to sort myself out, have just ordered this to collect tomorrow. If I don't like it, my daughter will whisk it off to uni after xmas. www.argos.co.uk/product/2144050?rec=webRespPDP:4385659:alt:CWVTPUBOOT:2144050

I have ikea plant pots like this, separated into eyes/ face/ lips/ hair. I have a vanity case for all nail supplies.

I used to use a small tool box. Just a black plastic one with clear plastic sections on the top, a removable tray and a deep bit. It cost about £8 from bq and was perfect. I now use a massive cutlery tray which fits in my dressing table drawer.

LordEmsworth · 09/12/2016 22:13

I invested in Muji acrylic drawers and love them, very practical but also tidy. Might have to see if Primark's are up to the same standard to build an extension...

Sparkletastic · 09/12/2016 22:19

Deffo Muji,

IneedAqueenMortificadoNickname · 09/12/2016 22:21

Mines all chucked in a suitcase at the moment. Never thought I'd own so much!
They have cases very like the NYX one on eBay only far far cheaper.
Poundland have the clear drawers mentioned up thread though.
I think I want to turn my top drawer into a makeup drawer with some kind of dividers.

Knittedfrog · 09/12/2016 22:24

The makeup box London have a good one. Quite pricey though.

ElspethFlashman · 09/12/2016 22:28

IKEA boxes - small ones, similar in size to the plant pots above.

One for eyes, one for face, one for brushes, one for lips.

I've realised over the years that they fit what a normal non-hoarder would own, so it helps me keep a lid on it. If stuff starts to spill out, then something has to go.

(I still manage to fit 3 foundations in the face one Blush )

I used to do the Muji thing but didn't like how grubby they got with powder dust and lip gloss smears.

Daytona79 · 09/12/2016 22:28

I buy these from eBay I've various different sizes and they are stackable

They are very sturdy plastic

The basic stuff I use every day is in one make up bag. All the nail varnishes are in clear plastic shoe boxes. Everything else is organised in a big muji make up bag, plus some muji plastic containers and open cardboard boxes. Everything is kept inside drawers, with nothing cluttering up my surfaces. And before I organised it all, I got rid of everything that didn't spark joy in a Konmari clear out.

puglife15 · 09/12/2016 23:19

I have a large cantilevered tool box style flight box, plus on my dressing table a cup type thing for brushes and one of the drawers below with a small divider tray in it for my everyday stuff.

bingohandjob · 10/12/2016 09:33

I've got Hotel Balfour acrylic storage from TK Maxx similar to this www.containerstore.com/s/bath/cosmetics-organizers/12 is great. I've got staggered sizes so everything easy to see and get at.
