Dress that's just a bit too short?

I have just bought a gorgeous dress for work. It's warm and wintry-long sleeves and slightly A-line-think White Stuff style. I want to wear it with boots and tights (well thick leggings as I don't like tights) but it's mid thigh and I'm wondering if it's a bit short. It would look better probably if I was an 8-10 but I'm a 14!!

Could I wear a black a line slip under which might just look like an extra lining?

Or any other thoughts welcome??

An alterations place can put a false hem on it. This is where they let the hem down fully and add a piece of fabric to make a new hem. You don't see any of the new fabric from the outside. It's not a difficult or expensive thing to do.

You can wear short dresses as a size 14, do you have decent legs? I'm a 14 and my legs are my best feature so I just love getting them out as much as possible!

Thick tights or leggings will tone down the shortness of it. Unless it's actually showing your arse, wear it; a slip or added hem will probably make it look odd.

Thank you for the replies-there is only a very little hem-I can't imagine there would be enough material there to let it down by much.

I don't mind my legs at all-they are probably my best feature, but I was wondering if I was getting on a bit (nearly 40) for something this short! I was definitely going to wear decent leggings, but just wish it was 2 inches longer!

Hey don't worry, I'm 5"9 and 38, I don't care, I love my legs and I'm not concealing them for anyone!

Might be a bit short with tights but with leggings, I would see it as fine, no different to wearing a long top and leggings.

Ive got a whole collection of various shades of thick opaque tights.
