Nose piercing

My dd has recently finished a course of Roaccutane for acne. To celebrate her beautiful skin she has finally got her nose pierced (which she couldn't bring herself to do while her skin was so bad). She asked my opinion beforehand and was amazed that I was all for it, and admitted I would have loved to have had my nose done when I was younger. But I was a nurse in a very traditional hospital and it was against rules (may still be, I'm no longer a nurse so don't know!) Anyway by the time I'd given up nursing I'd got a family and never really considered it again having given up all jewellery.
So dd said I should get it done now. But I'm 48. I know people my age with pierced noses but they've always had them, they aren't new wearers if that makes a difference. I don't really care what people think (well maybe I do a bit,) but really don't want people thinking I'm having a midlife crisis Grin though have to say I'm terribly touched dd thinks I should!
Just interested to know, what do you lot think?

I don't think age is as much the issue as whether or not it would suit your look. Do you think it would?

Parisbanana · 06/12/2016 20:15

Yes, good point Fuzzypeggy!
I think it would suit my style. And dd obviously does or there's no way she would encourage it! Not that I do what she says, but I assumed she would've been aghast at the thought of me doing it. I'm sure my mother would think I was mad!

I say go for it then! If you don't like it then it will always heel up. Better to regret something you did rather than didn't do etc

Parisbanana · 06/12/2016 20:22

I think that's great advice! Thank you Smile

I think they look great on the right person, no matter what age. I like the tiny little sparkly studs rather than a bigger one though.

Got mine done at 35. Love it! Do it! It felt liberating!

motherinferior · 06/12/2016 21:01

I had mine done earlier this year. I am 53.Grin

NeonPinkNails · 06/12/2016 21:37

Also had mine done a few months back, I'm 43. I absolutely love it and wonder why I didn't do it sooner, it's made me feel like 'me' if that makes sense, and loads of people have either assumed I'd always had it or said it looks great.

Good on your DD for encouraging you - go for it :).

TheCakes · 06/12/2016 21:44

I had mine done at 16. Stopped wearing a stud regularly mid-late 20s. Just approaching 40 now and do occasionally wear one. The hole never heals.
I think when you get older, edgy styles like pierced noses or pillar box red hair look great if you have your makeup done perfectly and are well groomed and styled.
Otherwise you can end up looking a bit rough.

BlueEyedWonder · 07/12/2016 06:44

I had my nose pierced at 18. Wore it until mid 20s and then stopped. Popped it back in in my mid 30s and have been wearing it since. I'm 40 now.
Agree with others; it's less about age and more about if it fits your style. I'm a fairly classic dresser but always with a quirky twist. I get lots of compliments from other women, including about my piercings - I also have several ear lobe holes, tragus and rook piercing. All jewellery I wear is very tiny.
I say do it. It can be removed if you hate it or tire of it!

Parisbanana · 07/12/2016 16:08

Thanks everyone for the reassurance that I'm not necessarily treading in midlife crisis territory. I'll definitely consider a bit more but as you so rightly point out, if I don't like it once done, I can remove it.

I'm getting one in the new year and I'm 41, wanted one since I was 16 but my mum said she'd disown me and I foolishly believed her!

ConkerTriumphant · 07/12/2016 19:50

I had mine done at 44 and I work in a very professional setting!

JeNeRegretteRien · 07/12/2016 19:59

My sister had hers done for her 40th and it looks great. I agree with TheCakes that it works best on people with a more groomed style, and also if you put discreet but expensive jewellery in it.

Go for it!

motherinferior · 07/12/2016 20:10

My style is distinctly ungroomed but it looks terrific.

topaz22 · 07/12/2016 20:18

yes do it! my mam got hers done at 40 something a few years ago and it made me get mine done Grin

hollieberrie · 07/12/2016 21:05

I'm 37. I had it done 10 years ago. I absolutely love it. Its something just for me iyswim and it makes me happy every day :) No-one has ever commented negatively, but even if they did i wouldnt care. I'm a teacher & its no problem at all at work. Go for it OP!

DramaAlpaca · 07/12/2016 21:10

I'm considering getting it done & I'm 52. I think a tiny stud in the nose is really pretty.
