How do I stop my highlights going brassy?

I've tried provoke and left it on for a few minutes but by the time I'm coming towards getting fresh roots it is still starting to look a bit brassy.

What else can I do?

Provoke is crap. Get L'Oréal silver shampoo from Amazon be generous with it and once it x2 a week or every second wash dependent on how often you wash your hair. Do you get highlights and low lights?

lisaneedsarest · 06/12/2016 13:00

The Lee Stafford purple shampoo is great, keeps my hair nice and ashy if I use it a couple of times a week (I wash my hair every day). The hot shots from the same range are also good if you have already gone a bit brassy!

5000candlesinthewind · 06/12/2016 15:21

Thank you both. I thought it was just me with the provoke as everyone seems to recommend it highly.
I have half a head of highlights.

You can use the purple/silver shampoo right from the start(after colouring) then if no lowlights helps stop the brassy build up. Not used lee Stafford myself. People always rave about provoke don't they!! Doesn't suit my hair at all must be a hair type thing.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 06/12/2016 16:52

Another vote for Lee Stafford bleach blonde shampoo. You can leave it in for five mins on damp hair if it's very brassy and gives great shine. I find Provoke too blue toned and very drying.

Pisssssedofff · 06/12/2016 18:23

This is absolutely amazing. But I haven't tried the lee Stafford. Im assuming they do a conditioner in the range too ? Is that good. I don't shampoo just condition

Lee Stafford does a conditioner in that range too, Pissssed

IncidentalAnarchist · 06/12/2016 18:51

The MilkShake purple shampoos are amazing

MrsMeeseeks · 06/12/2016 19:39

I just use normal conditioner with a squirt of purple Crazy Colour in it.

AnnieMated1 · 06/12/2016 19:43

Okay, so it's expensive, yes, but Shu Uemura's Art of Hair Colour Lustre Cool Blonde range is unbelievably brilliant! My highlighted hair is no longer brassy, ever.

L'Oréal professional in the hot pink tube, it's bright blue and scary looking but absolutely fantastic. It's a conditioner.

Dogegg33 · 06/12/2016 19:46

Ketchup

Fuzzypeggy · 06/12/2016 19:50

Ketchup does the opposite and makes the colour warmer

phoebe2016 · 06/12/2016 19:57

Clairol Shimmer lights, purple shampoo and conditioner are very good :)

Mrs do you wash with shampoo too? It's starting to become a bit fussy for me as I have to use voseen first, then purple shampoo and then I need a deep condition or my hair gets really dry.
Will give some of these a try, fingers crossed!

I have curly hair, 5000, so I don't use shampoo. I wash with co-wash.

Pebbles17 · 06/12/2016 20:57

Lush do a brilliant purple shampoo ( Daddy O I think it's called ), the milkshake one was fab when I had silver hair but I imagine it may be a little too much on highlights

Kel1234 · 06/12/2016 21:02

When I had highlights and even more so when I bleached my hair full blonde, the lee Stafford purple shampoo and conditioner worked great.

Five2ate · 06/12/2016 21:46

What happens if you don't have a full head of highlights just the t section plus dark roots/rest of hair. Is it ok to use these products to jeep highlights fresh or will it do something weird to your hair because it's not highlighted enough. Whaymt does it do to the un highlighted haitlr?

Five2ate · 06/12/2016 21:47

Confused I am not drunk. That last sentences should be What does it do to the unhighlighted hair

5000candlesinthewind · 06/12/2016 21:55

The provoke hasn't done much to my brownish hair under the highlights five. I don't know what other shampoos will do but I doubt it would be anything drastic.

OP posts:
Pisssssedofff · 07/12/2016 07:25

The products only pick up the highlighted bits

hollyisalovelyname · 07/12/2016 07:34

What happens if you have high and lowlights.
My lowlights lighten up and I look like I have all over blonde- not a good look for me.

Five2ate · 07/12/2016 10:55

But how does it know?????? Confused

MassDebate · 07/12/2016 11:02

I would recommend caution with purple shampoo, don't overdo it. I learned the hard way when my highlights started turning lilac Hmm
