What to wear to Langan's for brunch

Hi,

I'm going to Langan's for a Christmas brunch at the weekend and am in a real quandary as what to wear; I have a navy lace dress, but it has short sleeves and I worry that I'll be cold - wearing a cardigan seems a bit frumpy and a jacket too formal.

Any ideas oh wise stylish ones!?

Thank you

Following. I also have a navy lace dress with 3/4 sleeves to wear for xmas eve lunch and have the same quandary! I was thinking one of those crepe style boyfriend blazers? I have a burgundy one that could go?

Personally I think a lace dress is rather OTT for brunch - London does tend to be very low key/dressed down! I'd go with jeans and nice blouse or top or jumper dress and boots.

Thanks ladies, I know what you mean about it sounding a bit OTT but it's definitely on the more casual side if you know what I mean.

I live in London too so know what you mean about the dressed down vibe... but definitely think I look better in a dress and my jumper dresses are a bit passed it!

I like Burgundy and navy together... good colour combo!

Oh sorry, if you live in London you know what I mean as you say so I'm sure you've made a good choice.

Do you have a cool leather jacket that would work? I wore a charcoal All Saints one to a chic wedding recently and it got lots of compliments.

plum1304 · 06/12/2016 19:44

Ah no worries Polyhymnia - thanks for your help!

Yes I do... and it's supposed to be getting a bit more mild isn't it....

And I could wear a vest to keep warm...! Ooo the glamour!

Actually people do tend to dress up a bit at Langan's. The lace dress sounds lovely - agree with biker to ramp it down a notch, or an unstructured jacket.

Think the biker with the lace is a great idea.

Have to say I was at Langan's earlier this year on a Friday night for dinner. For the most part, I was overdressed wearing heels, a skirt and pretty top. There were a few tables where people were dressed up but they had clearly come from work, but the vast majority weren't smart - it was jeans with everything. DH and I felt old.

I would say a lace dress would be too much - maybe if you're going to one of the hotels like the Savoy or Claridges, but otherwise I would take it down a notch or two. Chances are high that you'll be in with a lot of tourists who are wearing 'walking around London' clothing. Wear a dress by all means, but maybe with boots - ankle or knee length. Think more smart casual, than smart.

idontlikealdi · 07/12/2016 14:12

I disagree - I dont think people do dress up at Langans unless it's work dress, and definitley not for a weekend brunch. have you got any lovely knitwear you could wear?

Bluntness100 · 07/12/2016 14:15

I've only been once years ago, my sister in law more recently, and I also think it's more casual, I'd have went for smart jeans, heels or high boots, and a nice top. It's just brunch. A biker jacket does dress it down, but unless you're going to eat in it, then you're still wearing a Lacey dress to brunch....

BusterGonad · 07/12/2016 16:10

I over dress for everything so I'd be wearing the lace dress personally. But I've never been there and don't live in London so I'm not even sure why I'm commenting at all! Confused

plum1304 · 07/12/2016 21:08

Thanks everyone, the navy lace dress is what I'm going for at the moment - it's an a line shape, short sleeves, really simple! The plan is to wear it with my grey ash hurrican boots, grey biker jacket and blanket scarf.

Have yet to decide jewellery and handbag yet...

Thanks for all of the opinions!
