'actual' down jacket for boys

Girlwhowearsglasses · 05/12/2016 13:14

DS is 10. He wants a down jacket for Xmas or in the sales, me and his DF have one - his DFs is the best and is £££ from Rohan, mine is rubbish and also down and from Columbia (the difference is astonishing, I had a Montaine before that for eight year and it was amazing).

I've searched and all the 'down' jackets for kids are either actually polyester or properly £££. I want a happy medium to aim for in the sales probably.

He has some sensory issues and the feel of a properly puffy polyester one won't cut it. He is currently refusing a coat Hmm

My nephews have these www.tog24.com/fun-kids-down-jacket-black.html they're great. Might need to go next category up for range of sizes? TK Maxx have some really good down jackets in at the moment too and Uniqlo are great.

Ds has had Lands End ones for a few years and I've been very happy with them - as has he

cerealnamechangers · 05/12/2016 13:51

Canada goose?

Girlwhowearsglasses · 05/12/2016 14:10

Canada Goose is £££

Anyone bought from Snow Inn before? They come in lots of colours (I have three DSs and always buy different colours for convenience)

Lands End? Always lasted my boys a season and a bit and very warm. I don't think worth spending £££ at that age while they're still growing.

BertrandRussell · 05/12/2016 14:46

Have you tried Uniclo?

Strongbeatsskinny · 05/12/2016 14:59

Years ago Gap did them for children they were fantastic

badg3r · 05/12/2016 15:04

DS has one from Benetton that is very nice.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 05/12/2016 15:21

Uniqlo only doing adult down

Gap and Benneton not actual down. Same for H&M, Lands End, Blacks, Next, Polarn O Pyret, Decathlon, et al

As the Snow Inn ones are £60 I think that's a good middle ground - £20 more than a polyester puffa version, packable and a lot less than Canada Goose at c £300. They look to have reflective zips and pockets too
We shall see.

Thanks for the Tog24 link bingo - they look good too but am swung by the colour choices at Snow Inn

Lands end expedition parkas are down filled. They also have a plain grey one in their sale section. The expedition ones came in a range of colours/patterns.

Did you consider the uniqlo women's xs size? My boys are 9 & 11 and I sometimes sneakily get their outerwear & wellies in the women's section (nothing in a fitted style with a 'waist' obvs)
