What to wear over a party outfit?

I have tops and dresses aplenty for the party season but cannot find anything to throw over the top to keep me warm. Can anyone point me in the direction of a nice black cardi or something sparkly that will earn its keep? Crew-neck cardigans all seem a bit staid for a night out, long ones too casual, and waterfall cardis can look a bit too mumsy on me...

How about a velvet blazer/ jacket? I think I saw a nice one in Zara, or try New Look?

goodbeans · 04/12/2016 21:42

Thanks carrotcake, I always forget Zara. In the past I've found that their stuff doesn't last too well, but that's perhaps an irrelevance with something that will not need to be washed too frequently?

River Island have some sparkly ones, I bought one this week, you might find something that you like on their website.

Do you mean for outside? I have a collection of faux furs for this very purpose - I''m in Scotland where a cardi or blazer would not cut it, no matter how much wine was consumed!

I recently bought this and it's lovely www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-maria-hooded-faux-fur-trim-cape/p2963407?colour=Silver%20Grey

Black and silver cardigan?

BusterGonad · 05/12/2016 06:08

I always wear a blazer when it's warm and a faux fur coat in the cold. I've just also bought a pinky taupe gillet too! Not sure when I'll wear that bad boy but I love it!

Sorry for not coming back sooner - thanks for all the lovely suggestions everyone! I notice that there are lots of suggestions for blazers/coats - am I the only one who gets cold inside at bars and parties?!

Nope I am the same as you OP, I always get cold too.

ALongTimeComing · 07/12/2016 20:52

If you solve this it will be like the holy grail of party wear for sensible people. Totally place marking.

goodbeans · 07/12/2016 21:55

Yes! Glad I am not the only one! I think what's needed is a fine black cashmere knit for warmth, with metallic details for evening pizzazz, and an unfussy neckline/opening which doesn't detract from your evening dress/top underneath. Why am I not able to find such a thing?!!

Tesco/Florence and Fred have a gorgeous unstructured velvet jacket in at the moment, in black and a berry colour, really pretty and versatile...and cheap!
