Best high street cashmere?

Would you say Uniqlo or would you say no?

Never tried Uniqlo's cashmere, so can't confirm or deny. For me, high street cashmere is M&S cashmere: it wins every time (sadly my Amazon wish list containing a few Brora pieces gets ignored by my family EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Xmas Confused) Not perfect but it does the job for £79 (price of polo necks). Tried Autography turtle neck one for £99 - not worth the price difference, in my opinion. Am thinking of buying a few more polo necks in January (hoping for the sale).

Tried Tesco's cashmere a few years back, worst mistake I have ever made: bobbled from the word go, got shapeless in an instant.

Autograph, not Autography… Xmas Blush

Glitterspy · 01/12/2016 20:06

Don't buy Whistles cashmere. Really bobbly and scratchy. And usually I love Whistles.

Laska5772 · 01/12/2016 20:14

I would say John Lewis if you can get to one..

I have a couple ofSainsburys cashmere cardis (the first ones i ever had) from about 6 years ago, they have never bobbled and are beautifully soft but i have not seen any there for a while .

Since then I have bought and been given several John Lewis ones and they are also great .. I also have one from Edinburgh woollen mill.. also fine ( all of these were about £70-80 ..except the sainsburys which were around £50..

Recently i have bought two Boden cashmere v necks and they did show some signs of bobble , but a quick flick of the cashmere comb and they are now fine ,

All of these have been machine washed at lowest tempreture on the delicates setting .. Ive not found any shrinkage or thickening ..

Pure is really nice. Massive range and great quality.

HorseyHorseyTwat · 01/12/2016 20:20

Uniqlo is great. Much thicker than similarly priced equivalents; lovely and soft, and barely bobbles. I have two that still look fab nearly a decade on.

celeryisnotasuperfood · 01/12/2016 20:50

Best ever has been Edinburgh woollen mill - ok the shapes are very classic but actually it's the one that looks most stylish and has never bobbled. Sadly after 5 winters of intensive use the elbows are now thinning :-(

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 03/12/2016 16:55

I was looking at the cashmere in John Lewis today and was quite tempted.

Floisme · 03/12/2016 22:51

None of them as far as I've concerned except possibly Pure Collection and they may have gone off too. (It's a few years since I've bought it). I'm never buying cheap cashmere again. It's all rubbish, the whole lot.

I'm counting on you guys to remind me I've said this Grin

elephantoverthehill · 03/12/2016 23:04

My Edinburgh wool mill had their cashmere jumpers at half price today. Still to pricey for me though. Smile

Bejazzled · 03/12/2016 23:17

I have a few Uniqlo, they are very very good.
Also take a look at the Jaeger Outlet site, there are often terrific offers on their quality merino and cashmere knitwear.

PacificDogwod · 03/12/2016 23:19

Uniqlo is good.
Jaeger even better.
Lots of BNWT on eBay.
And Jaeger outlet is v dangerous to your credit card.
Grin
I also rate Pure.

FannyWincham · 03/12/2016 23:48

Higher end of the high street but I would also highly recommend Jaeger.

Nepotism · 04/12/2016 04:56

Just had Uniqlo for the first time and I'm really impressed. It's on offer at the moment. Have found M and S very inconsistent.

IDismyname · 04/12/2016 05:56

Jaeger are good for all knitwear.
I've found Pure to be of mixed quality.
Lands end stuff is good but £££

I'm also finding Woolovers mixed cashmere knitwear good, and at a reasonable price.

pericat · 04/12/2016 06:48

Landsend cashmere is fab and if you sign up for their emails you can often get a good discount e.g. 25% (never pay the full amount!)

AuroraBora · 04/12/2016 10:40

My uniqlo cashmere is the best I own. So thick but hasn't bobbled too much.

Woolovers blend is also good.

hollyisalovelyname · 04/12/2016 11:13

Pure bobbled very quickly on me.

Floisme · 04/12/2016 12:43

Just the mention of cashmere gets me a bit ragey at the moment as I'm in the middle of a sortout and I've got a couple of bags full of shrunken fuzzy felt. This is despite careful washing and combing.

I'm looking at you, M&S, Uniqlo, Asda, Sainsbury's and TK Maxx.

I worked out that the money I'd pissed away on that sorry lot would probably have paid for something from Brora that would have lasted the rest of my life.

Nettletheelf · 04/12/2016 14:10

I bought a black cashmere sweater from Pure this year expecting quality. It has bobbled disappointingly quickly.

Boden also went bobbly quickly. My JML 'bobble off' has been fully employed.

I have a 15 year old Burberry cashmere top. It has never bobbled and looks like new.
