Please tell me it doesn't matter if everyone else is wearing trousers...

...but I am wearing a dress to the company Christmas dinner.

I had my outfit all planned - a long black and gold dress from Monsoon with a black Jane Norman shrug and black heels. It looks nice. I have a pixie cut and don't wear shed loads of make up, so I don't look too try hard in it.

But then today in work everyone was talking about what they were wearing and almost everyone said "black trousers and a sparkly top".

I'm 38 not 16, why should I care what anyone else wears? But now I have a nagging doubt in my mind that I will stick out like a sore thumb.

WWYD?

It's a Christmas do. Even if you look overdressed it's the one occasion it doesn't matter. The others will look a bit dowdy I'd imagine rather than you looking out of place. Wear it.
Have fun

Just wanted to say I wore the dress, felt fabulous and had several compliments.

Didn't feel overdressed, although most people in my department were wearing trousers, lots of women from other departments were wearing dresses.

So thank you for encouraging me to go with my first choice!
