I will get to Kings Cross at 1.30 and have a meeting near Piccadilly at 2.45.

I currently have a tatty academic satchel type thing with me made of fraying plastic and advertising an academic conference from 10 years ago.

The bag needs to contain a pair of shoes, IPad, notebook and fat Victorian novel.

Please help me mumsnet

Tia

Ooh oooh, budget??

PNGirl · 30/11/2016 10:22

If you need a quick-fix bag, run into Accessorize in King's Cross. They have a few large work tote bags:

But do you want something posher for long-term?

eyelevelgrill · 30/11/2016 10:24

Up to £180

I work remotely most of the time so when I travel I often have this problem.

I will use it maybe 5 times a year so the most important thing is not to date...

There is a luggage shop on Pentonville Road, just over the junction from Kings Cross - I walk past it quite often but have never been in Tyler & Gibbs. This may not be quite the sort of thing you were after, as it's more cabin baggage than work bags. Likewise there's a Rolling Luggage in St Pancras.

Style, leather, colour, budget?

Immediate thought for speed/price/size is a Pliage from the Longchamp shop just up from Piccadilly on Regent Street.

& Other Stories is good for leather bags, also Regent St. Not sure what they have that would meet your needs atm. Otherwise John Lewis on Oxford Street has a decent range. Personally, I would head straight to Oxford Circus, quick check in JL, then walk down Regent Street, look in &OS and if nothing there, Longchamp.

Or you could head to Tottenham Court Road and try your luck in TK Maxx on Charing Cross Road, then walk across to Piccadilly.

eyelevelgrill · 30/11/2016 10:29

I will check those out from the train, thank you x

If your meeting is near Piccadilly, I would get the tube in from Kings Cross to Oxford Circus and pop to debenhams/JL/House of Fraser.

Style=corporate but I left my actual mini briefcase at home because it looks like you are going to court.

Am a commercial lawyer meeting prospective client.

Go into the shopping street at st Pancras - other side of Kings Cross station and there is a host of high end shops and a John Lewis where you will be able to get something

eyelevelgrill · 30/11/2016 10:33

French - is that inside the station?

Russell & Bromley sell a huge but smart shopper bag called the Katie. It has a detachable zipped pocket for a laptop or iPad and plenty of room for everything else. Excellent leather that would put some of the designer labels to shame.

There is an R&B on New Bond Street.

eyelevelgrill · 30/11/2016 10:33

W8 ooh sounds nice.

Fwiw, there is an L K Bennett and a Whistles in the St Pancras shopping mall itself. Otherwise, second R and B who also have a shop on Regent St.

eyelevelgrill · 30/11/2016 10:37

The R&b selection looks lovely though a bit ££££

Lk Bennett St Pancras station has swish work bags.

W8woman · 30/11/2016 10:44

I've just looked it up and groaned, OP. They've put the price up £50 Hmm.

Dulcimena · 30/11/2016 10:44

I'm not very corporate, but would this be big enough?

I like the look of this one but may not be smart enough for your needs.

The JL Kin brand bags look quite good too and well priced.

tribpot · 30/11/2016 10:55

Blimey, I had no idea there was a John Lewis in St Pancras.

eyelevelgrill · 30/11/2016 11:21

I love you guys ....

Update (before I lose the wifi minutes)

Whilst changing trains I dashed into Accessorise and bought the bag identified above.

This is very good news as I am no longer advertising Exeter County Council's event from ten years ago. They checked I had taken all the labels off.

But I'm not done yet. I am aiming for both John Lewis and Russell and Bromley.

I want a posh rucksack too.

Oh, and my handbag is looking a bit Fatory Shop.....

tribpot · 30/11/2016 11:34

Hats off to you for buying a bag whilst changing trains. I am far too paranoid about travelling to do anything other than charge straight over to the next platform, even if the train's not due for an hour.

eyelevelgrill · 30/11/2016 16:53

The John Lewis at St Pancras is a bit small but fun!

Thanks again ladies, meeting quite well
