Best high street primer?

I've used quite a few and I'm not convinced any of them are fantastic, what do you think? I've just finished the Soap and Glory one which is probably the best so far and £10 in Boots. I can't use the Lanacane anti chafe stuff as it gives me spots. The baby skin stuff was fine and cheap but I'm not convinced it did much. I want something to wear on its own with concealer and powder just to make my skin look better, not for any general cover up. I'm 39 and I do think I look younger with a bit of a dewy finish rather than anything too matt.

I use Rimmel fix and protect. Admittedly I haven't used many others put i find this one gives my skin a lovely brighter healthy look. If I'm in a rush I use It without my makeup and I don't look quite so washed out with it on.

Oh wow, Rimmel, thank you Alice, I'll have a look today. I assume it's fairly cheap? I was looking at the No 7 ones as I have a voucher but they're about £16 which is a bit much if they don't really work!

I like the Boots no7 'airbrush away'

doubleristretto · 27/11/2016 15:32

Thanks, Twogoats, I'm off to Boots now and shall try them both. I'm unmade-up, wish me luck!

I don't think I was bamboozled by the sales lady but this is apparently the answer to all my problems Grin. It does feel lovely on, really nourishing and has a pretty, dewy finish. Has anyone tried it before? As it is skincare rather than cosmetics you can use the £5 off side of the voucher they're currently giving out meaning it cost £12 instead of £17. I tried the Rimmel one, it feels much heavier on my face and shows up my face hair but then it does have a SPF.

I use Nivea post shave sensitive balm. Works a treat.

doubleristretto · 27/11/2016 17:11

Does the Nivea post shave stuff do anything on its own, Thatwas, or is it just a good base for makeup?

Boots No7 airbrush away.
Good thing about No.7 skincare products is you can ask for a sample before you buy. They put creams / serums etc in little round pots that give you a couple of days worth of product to try.

If you want cheap cheap, Barry M does a primer to reduce redness and I LOVE it - better than MAC!

doubleristretto · 27/11/2016 17:42

I got hives on my jawline where I tried the Rimmel one, sorry Alice, I'm glad it works for you as it is a great idea with the SPF and very reasonably priced. They've all but gone now with antihistamines.

Coco, the No 7 lady said the balm (above) was better for me than their primers as it is less pink based. I think this is based on my extreme paleness. I was looking at their airbrush away line when she cornered found me, were there five or six different types? One of them was quite alarmingly purple on my hand! Do you know if all of them are good? I could go back and ask for a little pot, that sounds fun Grin

Mamma, thank you for that, I'll give it a go in the week when my Rimmel hives have died down! This No 7 one seems good but I do love a bargain!

doubleristretto I've only been using primer since the start of summer this year so airbrush away is the first / only one I've used. It works for me so I don't see the need to chop and change right now. I hope you get on well with the balm!

LockedOutOfMN · 27/11/2016 19:25

I also like Airbrush Away and use it without make-up on top.

Twogoats · 27/11/2016 20:00

The benefit one 'Porefresional' is good too, but quite pricey.
