Loops on dresses

Here's a really daft question. You know how some dresses have long loops attached somehow to the arm holes? What are they for, and how do you avoid constantly having to tuck them back inside? I'd assumed they were for hanging (put them over the central hanging part of the hanger to stop the dress slipping off, as it might if you just hang it normally), but actually, one Phase 8 dress I have has loops coming out of the bottom of the arm hole that are nowhere near long enough to do that. On another (sleeveless) dress these loops were driving me barmy because they kept appearing and needing to be tucked back in. I'm tempted just to cut them off, but am I missing some way they're actually useful?

Pretty sure it's for hanging them.

Best I have is ridiculously long ones on some debenhams pyjama bottoms.

I snip them off and use them for craft.

Watching in fascination - I have wondered this many times over the years

I always cut them off. Pretty sure they are for hanging up purposes.

The short ones are for hanging on the ends of the hanger, rather than the central hook. Makes clothes stay on the hanger when in the shop. I always cut them
Off though, they're a pain!

Ifonlyiweretaller · 26/11/2016 17:41

They're definitely to keep clothes on hangers, but look dreadful if they show on an outfit, so I always cut them off. Then again I use the velvety type non slip hangers so the clothes stay on the hangers anyway!

I cut them off and put them in a little pot. I always have a stash of small colourful ribbons for barbie hairstyles, wrapping tooth fairy notes, crafts, tiny gifts and whatever else my lot need ribbon for. It's handy.

relaxitllbeok · 26/11/2016 17:45

Thanks all, I will feel free to cut them off then!

I always cut anything with these loops off. They annoy me.

I hate them and cut them off once I'm sure I like something I've bought. They're a recent invention - presumably we're all too childlike now to understand how to hang clothes.

Bluntness100 · 26/11/2016 22:20

I also just snip them off, they are normally for securing to the hanger.
