If you had 3k to spend on yr face....

SeasonalVag · 23/11/2016 07:51

Just got a tax rebate which means I can properly invest in my youth, not something I can normally afford. What's the most cost effective way to spend money on fine lines and wrinkles which are particularly bad under my eyes?

I was thinking a long course of microneedling? And save half for a upper lower blephoplasty....or is fraxel the way to go?

Was raised on sugar, smoked for years, have tender Irish skin and have had loads of stress in the past few years....my face is a wreck.

What would you do?

Seasonalveg. Haven't read through all of it but for eyes the best regarded surgeons are

Dr Brian Leatherbarrow in Manchester
Dr Tim Blackburn at Spire Cheshire

I've seen lots of there work and it's where I'll be going when I need it.

I wouldn't bother too much with laser. Good skincare will make a difference Vit C/Tretinion. And toxin will benefit everyone. Needling is good which can either be done at a clinic or yourself.

myfriendnigel · 24/11/2016 07:12

Botox-quick, easy, effective and if done right not obvious. You just look younger, more well rested and fresher and people notice but can't put their finger on why...Grin

HammersWidow · 24/11/2016 07:29

Any north Kent recommendations please? Smile

swooosh · 24/11/2016 18:00

I also recommend:
Dr Kalliroi Tzafetta based in Hertfordshire.

Her blepharoplasty results are beautiful and she's a specialised head and neck surgeon, couldn't get better qualified!

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/11/2016 18:09

I'd have a phenol peel. the results are amazing.

Hideous downtime but amazing.

SeasonalVag · 25/11/2016 13:41

Thanks every one, will be chasing up those guys, have heard about leatherbarrow and Mr Blackburn.

Regarding peels, I'd love to try one but am scared of the waxy look which comes from eradicating all pigment, doesn't it? I'm super freckly too, so think I'd look very odd without them. Fluffy...have you seen the results of a phenol peel? Did they last?

OP posts:
SeasonalVag · 25/11/2016 13:46

I think the way to is...6/8 sessions of microneedling.....then a blepharoplasty in summer 2018....I really don't care if look like I've had work done, I'm brazen like that :) ..one of my eyes has an extra fold of skin and its always bothered me, they're very uneven. And now they have bags!

Would anybody care to share before/after pics of microneedling? Or has anybody had that done?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 25/11/2016 14:09

I saw a woman on tv have one. She was blonde, fair skinned & had been a sun worshipper/smoker. She had pretty deep wrinkles around the eyes & lots of sun spots.

When the healing process had finishes she had beautiful unlined skin, it wasn't waxy looking, more fresh & so much tighter.

I'm very wary of micro needling. Cuts in skin are patched with scar tissue not more fresh skin. We learnt that at uni in wound care & also that inflammation itself is destructive to collagen.

I suppose if you already have scar tissue breaking it down & replacing with more scar tissue you have nothing to lose.

SeasonalVag · 25/11/2016 14:22

So, isn't scar tissue just loads of collagen? But, yes, I never thought about the long term implications....I'm on a train so might try and dig out any longitudinal studies, but I bet there aren't any....I just haven't seen anybody complain, even on real self where everybody has suffered a catastrophe...

OP posts:
SeasonalVag · 25/11/2016 14:23

Goldie, why not laser?

OP posts:
rightknockered · 25/11/2016 14:26

I'd save it and put it towards a tummy tuck
(sorry)

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/11/2016 14:33

Scar tissue has less pigment & is inflexible. Everything's collagen really isn't it? Blood, hair, skin, nails. All different types of collagen.

I'd be interested in longitudinal studies too. This misconception is that skin/bone can heal from damage and be perfect again.

Everyone medical knows inflammation is destructive and healing at the same time. But actually cutting the skins going to lay scar tissue down.

SeasonalVag · 25/11/2016 14:49

Hey, knocketed....I was agonising over a tummy tuck myself but sorted it out on me own...I used a slendertone belt nightly for an hour and cut out carbs, also the usual gym stuff. Had a 11lb baby, then an emergency csection, thought I'd never have a flat tum again....Now have a 27" waist....but I do think slendertone really got the muscles going, stomachs never been so flat. Honestly. Even have that happy furrow down the middle of my stomach. Give the slendertone a whirl!! I tried putting it the other way around ie on my ads once and I was mincing around the next day big time!!

SeasonalVag · 25/11/2016 14:51

How come it breaks down scars as well? Am confused.

OP posts:
SeasonalVag · 25/11/2016 14:52

Part of the reason I've aged to badly is autoimmune diseases, so I agree with the evils of inflammation!!

DigestiveMuncher · 25/11/2016 14:54

I would definitely have a nose job & probably get my teeth whitened. I have one of them huge fat noses that spreads all over my face. Everyone down my fathers side of the family have the same nose so me and all my brothers & sisters are cursed by it all so! Hmm

PollyPerky · 26/11/2016 08:53

Out of interest Swoosh is there a lot of downside to having bags removed. It's something I'd consider in the future cos if mine go like my mum's I'd want them done! (she looks amazing for her age but the eyebags are pretty bad.)

I've read tales of not being able to close your eyes, trouble with sight etc.

DamsonInDistress · 26/11/2016 09:12

For me, I'd have my teeth whitened and my upper & lower eyes done. My cheeks are okay and skin condition is reasonable, but I hate my eyes and my teeth! Well, my teeth are nicely shaped and spaced I suppose but the colour is awful (genetics).

margaritasbythesea · 26/11/2016 11:21

Seasonalvag i need to know more! Sounds bril. I low carb and ab exercise daily. I still have a little apron if fat despire being 10 ti 12 in size.

Sorry for hijack

Musiclife · 26/11/2016 11:25

I know someone who had a lower eye bag removal. He was delighted with it but years on he still has a noticeable row of little white stitch marks under each eye. Maybe results are better these days but I'm
Sure he would look better with the bags.

Bingybongybashy · 26/11/2016 11:33

OP not sure where you are but Dr Nyla in Wilmslow is AMAZING. She's a registered doctor first and most importantly. Plus she will give you advice on what is right or wrong for your skin. I've had tear trough fillers (amazing), Botox and Elixis Elite to stimulate collegen around my eyes!! She comes thoroughly recommended. I want nose to mouth fillers next and a laser treatment to reduce pigmentation (sign of aging) and age spots! I wouldn't go to anyone else.

Bingybongybashy · 26/11/2016 11:46

Can u just say, for lines and wrinkles please vonider less evasive options other than microneedljng etc. I originally went to Dr nyla for the same issues in the eye area (plus my '11' lines) and said Botox please! She said it won't work at this stage as i had crepey skin round my eyes. So I had 4 elixis elite treatments first which really smoothed the area out by increasing collegen, then I had the Botox! Both together was amazing without any downtime, no crusty scabs etc. So please get advice from a fully qualified registered doctor specialising in cosmetic procedures. I know you have concerns about lower eyelid and not sure if this is right for you, but I had really bad dark circles and tear trough fillers are the best thing I have ever had done!! All three treatments have have an amazing effect on my confidence and people think I look fresh and awake! I just wanted to look like I'd had 20 hours sleep a night!!! Best compliment however was from a friend who said I look like i did before I had my son!!! Happy with that!!! Smile x

Bingybongybashy · 26/11/2016 11:49

Not 'won't work' - it would look strange

Bingybongybashy · 26/11/2016 11:50

*20 hours!!!!!!!! 10 hours 😂

Tenpastlate · 27/11/2016 11:34

Reading this with interest. I've heard great things about Dr Nyla, too.

My concern is that I'll book a consultation and I won't be a) glamorous enough already to go there, and b) they'll upsell and recommend work that I just can't afford.

What is the experience of going to one if these places like?
