I don't live anywhere particularly snowy (I'm in the north-west) but do have terrible circulation (reynaulds) and always have cold hands and feet. I am really tempted to ask my DH for these for Christmas but am wary now I've seen reviews about how heavy they are. I'd want to wear them for much outdoor messing about with the dc and some walking when it's just small child paced and I get cold.

Any advice, opinions or other recommendations welcome please!

I have those Sorels and they are fab! Super warm

I have some beige coloured Sorels and love them for dog walks. The only others I've loved as much are Ugg Adirondacks in white which I lived in for 5 years til finally relegating to the bin. Joules Carrick boots are lovely, too, but noticeably less warm than the Uggs and Sorels.

I've got Sorel boots for proper snowy weather (have used in Italian Alps in deep snow and snowy Germany and they were brilliant) and Ecco ones like this for cold, wet weather and they are much lighter and super warm m.shopeu.ecco.com/eu/en-eu/ecco/trace_12561482/12561483?navId=316&group=listing

For wet, freezing weather I wear Sealskinz waterproof thermal socks with them and for dry cold, long thin merino socks from icebreaker which are comfortably warm

Thanks guys, loads of great information.

beastofcraggyisland thank you for the pictures. That really helps. I have seen the sorel caribous IRL as a friend we don't see very often but did meet up with recently has just bought some- but I hadn't realised quite how big they are!
I think I need to decide whether I just want boots to walk in/stay warm or boots to ear for a bit of everything. The Merrels look really good, but maybe not the type of boot you'd choose to go and sledge in etc. Unless they're not as smart as they look online Confused .

I love a couple of icebreaker merino baselayers I have until one got eaten by moths which I'm ignoring because I can't bare re thought of moth larvae in my wardrobe and I have a pair of SmartWool ski socks already. I will experiment with them too.

Basically, I think I now want a pair of Sorels AND a pair of lighter boots Blush Grin

taybert mine were from Cotswold Outdoor as DP is a qualified mountain leader and gets 20% off everything so it's where most of my presents come from Grin www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/sorel-womens-caribou-boot-h6114233?id_colour=3612

I'm tempted by the Sorel Tivoli- they look a bit easier to wear than the more heavy duty ones. I've found some of the premium short ones for a decent price but now I'm wondering if I'll regret not getting long ones when I'm traipsing through snow drifts, cos, you know, that's always happening. That said I might actually wear the long ones more often as they look less like hiking boots.

I'm generally reading to size up- anyone know if a half size is enough or would a full size be better?

WhooooAmI24601 · 26/11/2016 12:35

I'd just go with a half-size up for Sorels.

taybert · 26/11/2016 13:40

Thanks! I cat decided between the brown and the black so I'm going to order both and see which is better.....

DreamingOfAFullNightsSleep · 26/11/2016 21:19

Oooh taybert now you've got me wondering. Do I want the caribous, or go down to the 1964 pack II, or the tivoli. ...

Ugg Adirondack for me too. Love, love, love. I usually have the tall version but have been stalking the shorter pair this year.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 26/11/2016 23:46

If you want a pair of wellies make sure you get neoprene lined ones. It really does make all the difference. If anything my feet get a bit hot, especially if I've been out all day in them.

taybert · 30/11/2016 13:54

My Sorel Tivoli have arrived. I went for the premium high in black but I'm not sure...

They are lovely and comfy and warm but I'm not sure if they're a bit much being high and with the faux fur and they're a bit of a pain to get on and off. They are lovely though. Help!

Can someone advise me on some super warm winter/snow boots please?!
taybert · 30/11/2016 13:57

They're not too wide or heavy either.
