North Face Long Down parka - worth £300?

I am going to New York in January and have no really warm coat, so am thinking about getting this. As I'll be outside walking around a lot I'm going to need something very toasty. However, am baulking at the price.

Any feedback on whether it's a worthwhile investment?

Also any other suggestions for stylish, warm down filled 'duvet' type coats welcome. I'd like something knee length.

What would be a similar quality/warmth but using synthetic fillings ?

I have recently seen videos of down farms - it looks brutal :(

Am in the market for a warm coat though.

Didriksons parkas - brilliantly waterproof and warm!

I had mine for 7 years, until my puppy jumped up & ripped it.

I bought this as a replacement. It's amazingly warm, showeproof & it's much more stylish that it looks. The fur is also detachable.
I got 15% off at Cotswolds.

Also look at Craghopper and Mountain Warehouse. Make sure the out layer is waterproof, Down filling ducks up water and kept hold of it!

I bought one very similar to this around 3 years ago and it's still going strong. It keeps me very warm and dry and looks smart enough for wearing around town.

Sucks up, not ducks.

Another vote for lands end coats. Really well
Made and more affordable. I have the stadium squall.

I know what you mean about the cold Bingo, althoughtnot from New York, I spent new year in Southern Germany once and was ill prepared. I ended up wearing all my leggings and jeans over one another. Plus a coat and had to buy a hat. This time I am planning:

Primark fleece lined leggings +
Jeans +
Kengington Ugg Boots (another ebay bargain) +
Leg warmers +
The long North Face coat +
Gloves with wrist warmers over the top +
Wool snood +
Scarf +
Hat

The only problem will be unpeeling it all when I go inside a shop / museum etc. Grin

Honestly, when I got the North Face I was able to wear "normal" gear underneath (albeit with Uggs!) it was so warm. Best £ I'd ever spent.
