Darcey Bussell's shoes

How does she manage to walk and dance so easily in super high heels? Wouldn't her feet have been destroyed by years of ballet? How does she do it??

I love a high heel too, but at 45 I have had to jettison some of the real killers because they hurt too much now (have destroyed big toe, not through ballet but through dedicated heel wearing, but je ne regrette rien).

I can only conclude that Bussell is an android, or at least has bionic feet.

I wish I could wear heels, but with the start of a bunion, dodgy hips and a short DH, my days of heels are over. However, she only has to wear them on screen for such a short time. I'm sure I could endure a minute or two in front of millions

Maudlinmaud · 21/11/2016 19:52

I'm amazed by her ability to walk so elegantly down those stairs. Her feet are vertical in some of those heels.

Heratnumber7 · 21/11/2016 19:54

Il faut suffrire pour être belle.

I bet her feet are bloody killing her but she's got used to smiling through the pain.

Nettletheelf · 21/11/2016 20:16

Perhaps that's it. She must be a consummate professional, grimacing through the pain!

I imagine after the pain of ballet en pointe heels for a short while are nothing!

joangray38 · 22/11/2016 00:46

Repetto - a dance shoe company also do high heels/ boots. Sure I read somewhere that's what she wears. I have some and she has the same pair

VenusRising · 22/11/2016 00:52

She's just had her hips replaced!
I'd say her feet are numb to any pain at this stage....
That is the point of en point after all.

Nettletheelf · 22/11/2016 08:56

Just googled for foot damage caused by dancing en pointe. Ruddy Nora!

Both hips! That's terrible.

PinkiePiesCupcakes · 22/11/2016 10:04

It may be, and i'm possibly wrong, that shes so used to them now that wearing flats is more painful for her than the heels.
theres a tendon that shortens with prolonged wear of heels so that when you revert to flats it becomes very painful.

Wether that's anything to do with anything I have no idea.

burnishedsilver · 22/11/2016 10:40

Perhaps she has no feeling left in her feet.

YvaineStormhold · 22/11/2016 10:46

I adore Repettos. I had the most beautiful pair of heeled Mary Janes and my fucking dog ate them.

MrsDilligaf · 22/11/2016 11:39

My sister's feet are knackered from ballet, they are definitely not a pretty sight. Mine aren't too bad, but being en pointe is definitely not kind to your feet.

We've both got bad hips, and both tend to walk a bit like Dick Emery in heels these days. I love heels but they make my big toes go numb.

Nettletheelf · 22/11/2016 22:12

The Dick Emery thing has really entertained me!

I, too, would be crying if a dog had eaten £450 Repetto shoes.

Bsllerinas do walk with their heels on the foor sometimes! But their bodies are really put through the mill and especilly feet. I don't know how Claudia W does it either. However, stick insects manage better than larger girls that's for sure. I thought they looked like Jimmy Choos. My DD is friends with a girl whose mum is a household name top model. Even she struggles with the really high heels now!
