Velvet trousers

Picked up a pair of these during the 20% off promo at the weekend. It's the first pair of trousers I've tried in ages that vaguely fit my post weight loss body, although I'd still need to get them altered slightly before they get an outing. Also, for the cost I'd like to think I'd get away with wearing them a few times. Do you think a) I could get away with wearing something like this to work in a smart/casual office? And b) that they could be machine washed (the website says dry clean, but it's a 98% cotton velvet with no lining...)?

Yes, and yes.

SesameSparkle · 21/11/2016 20:46

Thanks smiling I've been flitting back and forth between a definite return and excitement over the possibility of owning trousers that fit....!

they are too bootleggy
cool ones in topshop - red cigarette ones but stock is low

SmilingGivesYouWrinkles · 21/11/2016 20:59

I disagree. I think they are classically elegant, and easier to find shoes for than cigarette style.

DrScholl · 21/11/2016 21:01

alright grandma

SesameSparkle · 21/11/2016 21:02

Ooh dr you're right those red topshop one are amazing, but sold out in my size sadly. The m&s ones are an old fashioned wide leg trouser and full length on me, but I figured that might still be workable? Else there are the black velvet Jamie's I linked to on another thread - also a more modern cut, but perhaps too jeansy for workplace?

You should understand such concerns with your username, Doc.

SmilingGivesYouWrinkles · 21/11/2016 21:06

Those Top Shop ones are lovely.

SesameSparkle · 21/11/2016 21:06

Oh shoes.... well the black do have the added advantage of keeping my ankles warm! Smile

Monsoon have some

DrScholl · 21/11/2016 21:19

i am a 12, got the 10 of the topshop ones NOT hopeful and they were fine over the legs but just about an inch too small on the actual waistband

So arent tiny

SesameSparkle · 21/11/2016 21:54

Thanks, well my Jamie's are 10s, but I'm apple shaped, with no hips. It would have to be a 10 or nothing. There's no way 8s would do up, 12s would be better on my waist but I think there'd be too much fabric on my hips.

Monsoon is also generally a bit too pear shaped, but thanks MrsM.

Can't believe I'm now contemplating shopping around for velvet trews.... Confused Think I really need to work out whether I hang on to the ones I've got and how I style them.

Anyone got any ideas for styling?

DrScholl · 21/11/2016 21:58

DrScholl · 21/11/2016 21:59

no other texture at all. plain top and sandally shoes

PLAIN

SesameSparkle · 21/11/2016 22:05

Haha thanks for the advice on plain, I just popped over to monsoon and think I quite like the floral shirt idea! Not the weird cardi-jacket tho ....

Yes I figured you meant the reds, they are quite the find, but no sizes left for me.

I'm now thinking about the M&S trews with a silk shirt like this. Sadly shirt is already sold out, and I own nothing like it, so I am now in the realms of fantasy outfits.... Hmm
