Grin

Finally.

I always thought I 'ought' to like their stuff.
I ventured in to one of their shops for the first time yesterday.
And yes, I do like their stuff Grin

Bought a top and would've bought a dress had it been available in my size.
Now tempted to get it online and have signed up to their newsletter, hoping for 10% or summat off as a welcome pressie, but sadly no

So now I am sitting on my hands and am furiously looking at eBay offerings

Just had to share.

Thanks Pacific It may have to wait then until I can get to Leeds for a try on. I'm hopeful of the jumper I've ordered as it's a slightly cropped length. I'll look out for those trousers too plimsolls

PacificDogwod · 21/11/2016 12:18

The 'net-brutalist' made me grin btw - I agree the website is all styled like that, but the actual clothes are all tactile and soft and drapey and lovely Grin

I think those huge culottes with brogues + oversized jumper are a caricature of the look they are trying to sell... v funny.

queen I'm not sure if the trousers in the pic are turned up. I'm wearing a pair right now and, unrolled, they go way down past my ankle bone to hit my heel. I'm 5'7 and not short of leg. If I turn the hem up, they stop just above my ankle bone.

Anatidae · 21/11/2016 17:45

Hmmm ... what would suit a short, horrible apple shaped fat bird then? Any ideas?

onwego · 21/11/2016 18:12

MsUnderstsnding, I'm with you. Cos suits me - both my personality and style. I'm never going to be a Boden optimistic bright/patterned/wrap dress type so Cos makes me happy (in an unimpressed, pale, baggy kind of way). Wink

tigerdriverII · 21/11/2016 18:41

Anatidae I'm wearing this www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Dresses/Dress_with_folded_neckline/46881-43329018.1#c-24480 today. I'm 5'4", an apple and well padded. Their shift style dresses are fab.

Anatidae · 21/11/2016 18:58

the model looks like she's just pooed herself... Grin

I just can't visualise their stuff on me - I know people rave about it so maybe I will try something. That one is viscose - do they do cotton/wool / natural fibre stuff too?

I will go and look with fresh eyes- thank you tigerdriver

PacificDogwod · 21/11/2016 19:13

I think the way those dresses fit is all in the draping
They need to fit properly at the shoulder/where the sleeve hits and the rest is all in the cut/drape of the fabric.

Ana, they do a lot of natural fibres. Personally, I don't mind viscose, and I don't iron so 100% woven cotton is out Grin

but in a sullen not bothered kind of way.

Floisme · 22/11/2016 14:34

I've just taken delivery of the jumper I ordered on Sunday (it may be £6 delivery but that was pretty quick) and I bloody love it. Really sharp cut, hangs beautifully, great colour (dark green) and feels much, much more expensive.

It's time to hold up my hands and stop taking the piss Grin

MandyFl0ss · 22/11/2016 14:53

Are there any discount codes?

Floisme · 22/11/2016 17:43

Just bumping this for you as I'm new to Cos myself but it sounds like they have mid season sales but don't go in for discount codes.

botemp · 22/11/2016 17:53

They have the occasional discount but it's usually very specific like the 20% off knitwear. Sometimes it requires a code, sometimes it doesn't. Men get more discount offers than women, occasionally they do free shipping. The mid season sale has already come and gone, I expect the 'proper' sale to start somewhere in December. I think they did some sort of Black Friday or Cyber Monday offer last year but for the life of me I can't remember what it was or if it was any good.

QueenoftheAndals · 22/11/2016 19:12

Flo I tried that jumper on today but small was too boxy and XS was too tight on the arms. I may well get the small in the future as the last top I bought from Cos shrank in the wash! There's a gathered waist miniskirt that I liked too but I think I'll wait for the sale.

CountFosco · 23/11/2016 18:42

So what is the sizing like? Based on dress size I should be somewhere between a S and a M (size 12-14 depending on the shop, e.g. always a 12 in Boden but a 14 for the skinnies I bought in Gap) but since you're all saying the sizing is large should I assume a S.

I don't live near a store and won't be near one for ages but love the look of some of the jumpers.

PacificDogwod · 25/11/2016 10:22

I think the sizing is on the generous side, but the shapes are a bit odd and not like conventional tailoring.
I am a size 10-12, 32DD, 5'6'' and bought my top in a small as it fits my shoulders but is then quite baggy. The M was drowning me, but I suspect I'd be able to wear an XS although in RL I am truly NOT extra-small, trust me!

I'd try an S. Or order both sizes and send back?
This is what DH does and it drives me bonkers!

Lovely jumper floisme

I do like a bit of Cos. I've got a lovely black tunic/long jumper with a leather trim, bought it a few years ago and wear it loads.

What do you think of this dress?

www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Dresses/Dress_with_folded_neckline/46881-43329018.1#c-24479

slug · 25/11/2016 12:01

I agree the sizing is generous....but only if you are under a D cup. I have dresses that are loose everywhere bar the extreme tightness over the chest.

Same issue with the thin sleeves.

Pity, I love COS

CountFosco · 27/11/2016 14:27

Is that a pre- or post bra intervention D cup? who am I kidding even pre-bra intervention I was more than a D cup You're really not helping me (I'll buy both sizes), although I have finally persuaded DH to part with some money so I've ordered some trousers from Cos for him. Menswear looks fairly slim fitting so hoping he (short and slim) will actually suit their stuff. And he works in Glasgow regularly so I'll push him to go to the shop there when he's up there.

PacificDogwod · 28/11/2016 22:58

Tbh, the thin sleeves are more of an issue for me that the bust (32DD here) Confused

Still love my top! Grin

Dancer I really like the look of that dress though I'd want to try it on first.

Wearing new jumper today Still really impressed with the sharp cut. It reminds me of Whistles except they'd charge at least an extra £30 and it would be acrylic.

IDismyname · 29/11/2016 07:23

So, would a busty size 16-18 with a bit of a waist find anything in COS?
(Fatter arms also a bit of an issue...)

I long to look more structural, and less flouncy.

I'm 50 btw, but don't think that matters!

mrsrhodgilbert · 29/11/2016 08:20

Ishouldcocoa, I think you need to try lots of things if you can get to a shop as the cut is not what you'd call standard, in a good way. I've found the shirts quite small on the arms. I'm a very standard 14 but have bought XL and even an 18 structured white shirts. I've also got an E cup bust to cover. It depends on your shape as much as your size, but they certainly go up to 18. There is plenty of stuff with stretch and loose shaping. The 14 coat I tried was perfect. Oh and I'm 52 and love it. The customers certainly looked more my age than decades younger.

Dulcimena · 29/11/2016 09:19

I feel quite relieved, I thought it was just me that had disproportionately big arms Blush

Sizing-wise I'm almost the same as Pacific - 10-12, 30E, 5'5, and I take a solid 38 there, but I have this long-sleeved dress in M (to comfortably accommodate arms) and this cardigan in XS. I generally start with S though.

phoolani · 29/11/2016 13:23

Ishouldcoco if there's one thing I've learnt from cos threads on here it's that most shapes and sizes seem to find something they love at cos so it's worth going in and trying in what catches your eye.
