Would I suit long hair?

I've had short hair ever since I was a teenager, so I don't really know what I'd look like with long hair! The apps that put a fake hair do on you are pretty terrible Hmm

I'm only vaguely flirting with the idea of growing my hair, as with my lifestyle (lots of swimming, helmet wearing and wrestling Grin ) short hair is sooo easy. However, I do like the idea of a braid a la hunger games style

Name changed on the off chance that someone recognizes me

I'm usually a fan of long hair but, honestly, I wonder if it might look boring on you unless you found a way of making it an interesting style. It also sounds from your lifestyle as though you wouldn't want to spend too much time styling it.

I like your hairstyle - it really seems to suit you and I find it interesting. A hairdresser will be able to tell you more about how your hair might look in a longer style, but if you didn't want to colour it then I wonder if you would lose some of the personality that now comes across with your current style. I like hair that is a little bit different, and I think mid length or long brown hair sometimes make people fade into the background.

On the other hand, you could grow it a bit and see if you like it!

YouWereAlwaysPerfect · 18/11/2016 17:56

Due to your life style I think you should keep it short, it suits you the way it is now.

Floisme · 18/11/2016 18:18

I like your look too but I can understand being curious about long hair. I've tried growing mine many times, even though I know by now that it drags my face down and makes my cheekbones disappear. Plus I'm far too lazy to care for it.

But it doesn't do any harm to have a go. At least then you'll know (although if you're like me, you'll forget and want to try again in a few years).

My friend has a very similar bone structure + hair quality. She always had a short/pixie cut, but then decided to grow it for a while. It looked totally m-eh, aged her and kind of ... took away her edge? Happy to PM pics.

Swimming and long hair is a total pita! I swing from long to jaw length. I think you suit it like it is now.

Bluntness100 · 18/11/2016 18:49

You've got thick hair, so will probably look quite nice long, give it a shot, if you don't like it, you can always have it cut again.

SpeckledyBanana · 18/11/2016 18:53

Try it. If you don't like it, cut it again.

Cupcakesarah · 18/11/2016 19:02

You could try and grow the top and keep the sides the length they are, a compromise?

Puckthepixie · 18/11/2016 20:08

Thanks guys! I think if I left my hair loose and long it would make my face look a bit like a potato, but to have long hair constantly tied back seems extremely pointless!

I think I will stay short for now...

The main issue with "try it and see" is that I would have to suffer through months of "awkward stage" only to be underwhelmed buy the final result!

Growing out short hair is a PITA, to be fair. I grew out a pixie cut a bit at a time, by letting the sides grow down before letting the back grow out, so I had a jaw-length bob before letting it grow to shoulder length.

Puckthepixie · 19/11/2016 00:02

I have found a semi-decent app for haircut fun! I spent about an hour on it this evening Blush

What do people think? I quite like the shortish hair for looks and practicality. Seeing myself with long hair is so weird, as I have a totally different face structure to when I was a child.

There's 50 hairstyles here to suit oblong/long faces therighthairstyles.com/20-super-chic-hairstyles-for-long-faces-to-break-up-the-length/

It shouldn't take too long to grow your hair to the length of no.5. I think that style would suit you, and you could then consider growing your hair to length of no.1 which, again, would suit your face shape.

While you may not be able to wash 'n' go as fast as you can now after swimming/sports sessions, some things are worth making sacrifices for and I'm sure you'd enjoy being able to vary hairstyle even if you subsequently chop it all off again,

No.21 is the kind of braid I'd envy but, although I've got a lot fine long-ish hair, I'd have to grow it another few feet and have extensions to create a plait as thick as that one. Smile

FSVC · 19/11/2016 02:57

I think it looks really cool short, especially your side profile. If you're bored what about shaving the sides or bleaching it or something? The hell of growing out short hair is just too hellish unless you really want it long, I think, and if you've always looked interesting you're probably not going to like a bob much, which realistically is what you'd have for the next 2 years...you have to consider all your clothes as well, I cut my hair really short when I was younger and it worked ok with my face but not my body! Like that t shirt you're wearing, that goes with short hair but I can't get away with stuff like that. Short hair is like a look in itself.

burnishedsilver · 19/11/2016 08:39

I like the shortest of the 3. It's a good compromise. It suits you. It's got a bit of length but it wouldn't be a total pita for swimming.

youvegottobekidding · 19/11/2016 12:36

Could you try a few wigs on? In my local shopping centre, they have a beauty stall that sell make-up, clip in hair extensions/clip in pony tails & wigs - if you have something similar near by, you could try a few on to see what suits - at least then you'll have a better idea of what longer hair (and the style) would look like on you.

redfairy · 19/11/2016 13:00

I like the first one!
