stylish nightie - an oxymoron?

I'm having knee surgery in the new year and have been advised to bring nightwear to the hospital, even though I think it will be day case. I assume I'll be wearing said nightwear for the surgery (they don't seem to put you in hospital gowns any more). Please tell me it's possible to get a nice nightie. Every one I've seen is either (1) slinky sexy agent provocateur styley or (2) old lady flannelette cosy fugly styley.

Obvs I know this matters not one jot and the hospital staff won't give a fuck what I'm wearing. But I care. I had a lot of hospital stays some years ago and psychologically I need to feel human for it. I usually wear pjs or nothing, and I don't think pjs will work as they'll need access to the knee.

I used to buy nightwear from Toast but it's all gone horrible recently. Even the models look embarrassed in the nightgown pictures. I have no idea where else to look. Also this is likely to be the first surgery of several so I'm prepared to spend up to about £60-80 I suppose (but would prefer to spend a lot less).

I've had a hospital gown for any surgery I've had, are you sure you won't? Seems odd.
A nightie might be easier for them to look at how it's healing post surgery though. Or maybe pyjamas with shorts instead of trousers?

I think what you need is a lovely cozy cashmere or similar hoodie or cardigan to put on top if you want to feel 'more human'.

Ooh yes catheters! I forgot those. In which case I think I'd go for a fun tshirt style one from a supermarket or primark. Not old lady ish, not silky and sexy.

Debenhams have nice jersey nighties that are fairly stylish but not sexy!

thank you all! I hadn't thought about supermarkets, I don't know why. I'll have a look at them. I like the figleaves one, TeaPleaseLouise but I'm 5ft 8 and I think it would be a bit skimpy! I don't want my hospital paper knickers on show

Wicked yes it's very odd, my son had major surgery on his ear a few years ago and he went to theatre in his jeans and t-shirt - was very uncomfortable for him afterwards on the ward when he was woozy and in pain. Would have been much better for him to be in a gown. I'm guessing actually, since it's day case surgery - why else would I be required to bring nightwear? I might have to stay in, depends what happens, but hopefully I'll be discharged the same day.

YY to a couple of cheap tshirt cotton nighties from the supermarket.

They might end up stained or smelly or covered in MRSA. i'd want to chuck them out afterwards.
