Anyone not wearing a sparkly dress this Xmas party season?

I'd like to get some different party wear that is not:
black
stretch lace
sequinned
sleeveless.
made of that scratchy sparkly material

What will you be wearing?

Its not for me ( I am the wrong body shape for this type of skirt ) but I just saw this ruched velvet midi skirt . Could be just the thing?

Joneseygirl77 · 13/11/2016 21:14

Mumtodogs is that dress very short? It's currently sat in my basket and I'm
debating whether to just order it! I'm 5ft 7 so find topshop can be short on me sometimes.

SesameSparkle · 13/11/2016 21:49

remus have you already seen black velvet skinnies?

Have just bought these gorgeous, ankle grazing black lace ( I know that was on your list, but they aren't stretch!) trousers from JCrew with a 20% discount, and will wear with a low key top of some description/cashmere jumper and suitably sparky earrings.

I've got this blazer dress from ASOS, which looks quite stylish on (IMO) and has the added advantage of being really comfortable and not at all clingy.

Sesame Thank you so much. They look exactly what I'm looking for - now here's hoping I don't look like Robert Smith in them.

Rathkelter · 14/11/2016 19:57

Ambernectarine your red dress looks fab. I'm definitely inspired by the red skirt or flared taffeta skirt idea. Might just have to concede to wearing a black top with it... and lots of foundation.

I'll be wearing this, with red patent high heeled Mary Janes and a sprig of holly in my hair.

The green leafy/viney bits are much greener than they look here, and the overall feel is quite festive. The slightly angelwing sleeves are lovely and I like that the pussy bow bit is removable if I want to be a bit more cleavage-y. It looks very 1940s on, especially with the shoes. I can't wait to wear it!

I have no suggestions- sorry! Blush I'm just looking for inspiration. I'd quite like a dress with an interesting/striking pattern but all the ones I like are for people without hips.

salsamad · 15/11/2016 00:25

I've brought this from Coast when they had 25% off last weekend. It fits beautifully and will look great with black trousers or dark jeans.

I don't really do sparkly, frilly, lace or sleeveless and have ordered these dresses from COS.

pourme those dresses are fab. Are they very short? or are they only short on extra tall models?

NicknameUsed · 15/11/2016 07:22

I like that top Salsa. I never go anywhere that requires being really dressed up these days, and have bought a black floral chiffon shirt to wear with black trousers or skinnies. That will do for me over the festive period.

Floisme · 15/11/2016 08:42

Love that red Cos dress although I'm probly the wrong shape for it now. And the velvet trousers. This is why the world is going tits up - not enough people wearing velvet.
Remus, it would be an honour to look like Robert Smith.

MuchasSmoochas · 15/11/2016 09:29

For those that like the Phase Eight dress - I've just got 25% off it on Kaleidoscope, new customers who open credit account get discount. And then I'll pay immediately.

TheImprobableGirl · 15/11/2016 10:29

I bought the 12 and it seems like a good fit (but I can be anywhere between a 10 and a 14) it seems true to size and I am a little heavy on the nork which it seems to take in its stride! No 25% off for me though :(

MuchasSmoochas · 15/11/2016 11:01

Most of the sizes are sold out. I ordered 12 and 14 just to be safe. Slightly worried it will be a bit short?

MuchasSmoochas · 15/11/2016 11:06

I like that ASOS dress Tigsy. Did anyone get the ASOS Christmas magazine? Quite terrifyingly young. Or just plain weird. Had to lol at the staff group photos, they are so hip, glad I'm self employed and only the cat sees me.

ChinUpChestOut · 15/11/2016 11:42

I'm going to be wearing this Cos silk dress with a blingy necklace, and some high heeled shoes (sort of shoe booty things) and definitely not the clumpy shoes in the picture.

Stevie77 · 15/11/2016 13:25

Oh my, those velvet skinnies 😍

I need to stop reading this board!

Laquila · 15/11/2016 17:10

"This is why the world is going tits up - not enough people wearing velvet."

Couldn't. Agree. More.

Now I know it's somewhat sparkly, but I have this midi skirt from Oasis and it's beautiful.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/11/2016 17:20

I like that a lot Laquila. I was going to wear a turquoise/green three quarter sleeved skater dress that I've had for a couple of years, but am now very tempted by a skirt like that!

bobkate · 15/11/2016 17:25

muchas Thank you so much for the Kaleidoscope info - just saved myself £24.75 on a new frock Grin I had bought it in store today for the full price but was feeling a bit guilty...now I can return it and lose the guilt Smile Thanks x

iklboo · 15/11/2016 17:40

Well.....it's mainly black. And sort of sleeveless but I'm wearing this:
