Or can anyone recommend comfy boots that aren't knee high (short arse here)

Comfort over style here - am usually a converse tomboy person.

I bought a pair of Ugg Grandles in the 2014 black friday sales and they are basically all I wear from October to March now. We're about a month into their third season of wear and they look great still. The sheepskin is still lovely and warm and hasn't compressed down to nothing; the outers are still sturdy and waterproof (i give them a spray with some protector spray every now and then). If you want Uggs that don't look like classic Uggs have a look... there are lots of other styles too which are proper leather on the outside and have a bit more structure to them. They are expensive yes but given how much wear they will take I think they're pretty good value.

I've got these or very similar to these bought about 3-4 years ago in a sale think I paid half price for them, genuine uggs but a sort of light/mid brown. the 'Ugg' logo on the back isn't super strong which I like.

I do have other uggs - Bailey button and classic short and some knit ones but the ones above are my favourite - super comfy, good sole to grip and warm.

Me too, just ordered my first pair using the mumsnet code. Can't complain at £99 for a pair of classics!

I prefer Emu, mine have chunky soles and are waterproof, so definitely not slippers. I've also tried Celtic sheepskin, but they didn't last anywhere near as well.

YY to only as slippers. Mine were £80 from Oz, gone through 2 winters and still perfect. DH's are about 8 years old and still going strong.

I'd rather spend that much on a pair of slippers that last years and years, than have to buy a new pair every year for £15.

Real UGGs have proper soles so don't slouch at the sides.

I LOVE my uggs

I have proper boot ones that have lasted four years at least and my super comfy original ones that look like big slippers but honestly I do not care!

The slipper uggs were purchased after trying to wear a stupid pair of heels on a date with DP not long after we had been together, trying to look glamorous resulted in very sore feet we walked past an ugg shop and I looked longingly at them and tried to hobble past... resulted him pushing me into the store and saying ok let me treat you to a pair, your obviously in pain :)

This is how I knew he was a keeper :)

I've had a pair of real uggs slouch at the sides, 100% the real deal but maybe I walk funny :) but was wearing them 24/7 and doing a lot of walking.

They don't wear away and slouch at the sides unless they're fake. My chestnut short ones are on their 5th winter and look brand new.

Nope. Nothing to do with their authenticity and everything to do with your gait. If yours haven't worn and collapsed at the side then you probably have a fairly neutral gait. However, anyone who overpronates (feet roll inwards) or underpronates (feet roll outwards) will find that the sheepskin will eventually fold and collapse. It looks dreadful. I have high arches and a tendency to overpronate and have learnt the hard way that I can't wear anything with a totally flat sole and no footbed support to walk any kind of distance: wellies, ballet flats, flip-flops, or Uggs.

The proper leather ones with sheepskin lining are lovely, however.

I'm the same Fanny and wear insoles in all my boots. Really does stop me wearing the outside of the sole down prematurely.

I've got a grey suede pair with zips that I got in an outlet for £50 about 3 years ago. They have proper soles and are so warm. For the basic ones, I refuse to pay Ugg prices, and bought BearPaws from TK Maxx for about £20 a pair. They are coming up for their 5th winter and are still in great shape. Ive also got a pair of Ugg Kensingtons which I don't like, and must get round to selling.

Actually, no, I do not have a neutral gait. I underpronate, meaning my soles and heel tips wear out much faster on the outside edges. I also have plantar fasciitis. I have still never had a problem with genuine Uggs (though a pair of cheap non-leather Rocket Dogs I had did the saggy thing).

Anyway, the general tone was that people believed this was an inevitable result of buying Ugg boots, which it is not.

I agree, PN. I overpronate to the point of needing custom orthotics. Still never worn down the sides of genuine Uggs. Also, the sheepskin is so much thicker and softer.

They're expensive, but I've had knock-offs and there's no comparison.

Thirding PN, my real uggs have been worn for 7 winters now (wear them most of the winter) and they still stand tall and proud. I had a black pair of emus and they slouched to the side and wore away at the side within a month of use

Uggs all the way for me, comfort over style! Also have Raynauds syndrome where my feet go white and ice cold but this has never happened in any weather in my uggs. Will have a look at the grandles as a substitute but normal uggs don't look bad to me either

I think most Uggs are as ugly as all get out, but I have a pair as I work outside a LOT and during the winter nothing else comes close to keeping my feet warm. I have the ones that look more like regular boots and are calf length. I've tried other boots over the years and it pains me to say it but Uggs are the best in this regard.

However, if you're not going to be standing about in the cold and wet a huge amount then there are hundreds of other better looking styles that will keep your feet adequately warm. In my other boots ( DrMartens are very good) I use sheepskin insoles and thermal socks.

I guess it depends whether you go for comfort or glamour? Smile

I stand corrected, but I have seen plenty of genuine pairs of Uggs collapsing at the sides. Perhaps it's something else about the wearer.

Hi everyone,

Glad the code came in useful for some of you! It's never wasted money if it makes your feet happy ilost.

Just wanted to let you know, Shoeaholics have extended the Mumsnet offer until midnight tonight for anyone who missed out yesterday.

Expensive. Comfortable. No support for your feet- you start to pronate.

I love my Uggs, I've got quite a few pairs. They do so many different styles now other than the original ones.

I've never like the very clumpy ones anyway. I like the Abree ones, they look a bit neater but still lovely and warm.

I also have some black mid-calf length biker style boots made by Ugg, nice with leggings and thicker tights.

And I have some lovely brown leather ankle boots, can't remember their name but they have 3 buckles.

Quick question re sizing please. I am an M&S size 8 and an EU size 42 - they are not the same on the UGG size chart. Do I buy an UGG 41 (which they call a 8) or a 42 (a 9)?

Report
Littlelondoner · 10/11/2016 07:07

Uggs actually only come in half sizes. So i would go for 8. Also once the sheep skin flatte s they will be bigger. My uggs always feel snug at first then flatten out and feel perfect. I am a 4 usually so go for 3.5
