I need a hat, and some inspiration!

I knit my own. Much warmer than anything I've ever bought, and look better too. Use good quality wool.

Minus thirty here last winter so decent headgear a must!

zeeboo · 07/11/2016 23:07

A woolly one. Hth

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 07/11/2016 23:09

i have a couple of floppy velvet paddington bear style black hats....tend to wear these for dog walking, or shopping, they squish into a pocket nicely and do not catch the breeze.

I have a fake black fur cossack effort, only worn when feeling v glam.

and i have a monsoon plush thing that (also black) is surprisingly versatile as the brim rolls flattish, or sits out nicely and the hat itself sits up and proud, or will pull down and sit more fitted.

I have seen a lot of wool type hats about abut recently so I may investigate a cloche or fedora type. Mind you, it's so damned windy here, that's probably not wise.

I have a baggy "rasta" knitted hat which just has elastic round the mouth. You can squash it any way you like.
And a Fair Isle pompom hat with matching gloves which are very cute but not stylish.
I've also been known to borrow DS's Davy Crockett hat (minus the tail)!

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/11/2016 09:42

I have the Hush cashmere beanie hat - expensive but the way it's knitted doesn't give me hat hair, and it is SO cosy. Last year I bought a really lovely cloche hat, but rarely wore it as I need something that can be stuffed into my handbag.

PickAChew · 08/11/2016 10:07

I'm wearing a lovely soft grey cabled hat that I knitted myself.

FunkinEll · 08/11/2016 10:12

I have bought this in blue. Only worn once and so far so good. My winter coat is navy so it looks good with that.

The woolly bobble hats in the mantaray section in Debenhams are my favourite!! Grin

FrustratedFrugal · 08/11/2016 17:03

I've found a Dutch (?) brand called Barts, they have several really great alternatives.

MarianneSolong · 08/11/2016 17:08

Classic black beret. Plus scarf and gloves.

Buttwing · 08/11/2016 18:35

I've got two bobble hats with oversized fur bobbles but as every other Mum in the playground has one I'd like something different. I'd like something a loose and slouchy but my head is massive so nothing's ever slouchy!

GizmoFrisby · 08/11/2016 18:51

Joules fair isle bobble hat

NoNoNotAgain · 09/11/2016 06:24

Thanks all. I fancy something slouchy too, but haven't found the right thing. Knitted wool (ie not wool felt type) makes my head itch, unless I go for cashmere, so it's an expensive choice!

This one, after all the m&s www.marksandspencer.com/pure-wool-cloche-fedora-hat/p/p22470538?extid=ps_gglpla_UK_Gen_,Women%20_PLAWomen%20--%3E%20Bags%20&%20Accessories%20--%3E%20Accessories%20--%3E%20Hats_M&S%20Pure%20Wool%20Cloche%20Hat%20WINE%20Small-Medium&s_kwcid=AL!2750!3!47119164976!!!g!76310972563!&device=t&s_kwcid=AL!2750!3!47119164976!!!g!!&ef_id=V@Z@SQAAAGhSump2:20161109071828:s&pdpredirect hat]]

If wool is making you itch but cashmere is ok then you're probably just wearing cheap wool - virtually all high street buyable hats and knitwear are cheap wool.

Buy a ball of alpaca or something and knit your own.

SuperFlyHigh · 09/11/2016 17:20

Russian fur thing, I think I've got a wool one too

SunnyL · 09/11/2016 17:23

I wear DDs hat which i bought at the church fayre for £1

Thatwaslulu · 09/11/2016 17:24

I can't pull a hat off, much as I would love to. I don't suit any style I have tried so far.

P1nkP0ppy · 09/11/2016 17:30

I never wear hats, they make my head itch regardless of whether they're wool, cashmere or whatever.
I will resort to ear muffs if I really have to.

bojorojo · 09/11/2016 17:33

Fox fur from Russia.

Dowser · 09/11/2016 18:13

I do not suit hats.
However I hate cold heads
So my go to hat is a grey wool baker boy with peak I can tuck my ears in.

SunsetBeetch · 09/11/2016 18:39

I have a black, sparkly beret with a flower on the side, a light grey beanie with silver gemstones all over it, and a dark grey cable knit beanie. I do like a good hat.

dementedma · 09/11/2016 18:41

None. Make my head itch.
