Leather leggings

I'm 45 and not slender. A good solid 14. I've bought a blouson jersey dress from Zara and I very much like it. Tight on my little bottom and muscly legs. Drapey and concealing of my shapeless saggy tummy. So far so good. But it is waaaaay too short - more long jumper length. My teenage sons would never let me put in public in it.

Normal leggings would be a bit blah with it. It would look too timid. So what is the opinion on leather leggings? Or ponte leggings with a leather strip down to leg? Am I just too damn old? I'm really struggling for clothes at this age. So much in the shops is either hideously drab or jaunty, sequiny stuff. What do you think?

That's out in public. Tsk.

I am 44 and recently got Hush leather leggings. I love them. I am a 12 and would still be happy wearing them if I were a 14.

Yourface · 04/11/2016 15:01

Just wear what you want whenever you want or how you want...except the ones with leather strip down the side. It has to be full leather or not at all. Also you are too young to wear anything sparkly, in case you were considering it. Other than that, wear exactly what you want.

MaisieDotes · 04/11/2016 15:04

You're definitely not too old.

I was thinking of getting something like this for nights out (I'm 40).

Bloody hell. Every time I click on S&B I end up getting out the credit card AngryGrin

sighbynight · 04/11/2016 15:39

I do like Hush.

So, yourface, you are saying go hard or go home? I can live with that.

I think leather's great as you get older because it has structure. However I'm not convinced by leather leggings at any age. I like them from the knee down but I think that sheen they have is totally unforgiving of anything but catwalk thighs. If it was me, I'd try and find some with a matte finish, if they exist, or I'd look for ponte or gaberdine.

cantpickusername · 04/11/2016 15:48

I've got a pair of "skinny" high waist fake leather leggings from new look and I absolutely love them! I feel very sexy in them and my DP loves it when I'm wearing them.

I'm mid 30s and a size 14/16.

Be careful you don't get hot.

I know what you mean Floisme. I have some (not real leather) and my thighs are certainly not catwalk ready but I wear them with a t shirt and knee length cardigan so the thighs aren't really on show.

Floisme · 04/11/2016 15:58

Yes agree, I like them with anything around knee length.

Bluntness100 · 04/11/2016 15:58

I dunno I really like them and like them on other people, and I've thought long and hard about getting some, but for some reason leather leggings just feels a bit try too hard and muttony. Might look at the hush ones. I'm a ten to a 12.

YvaineStormhold · 04/11/2016 16:00

I ordered the burgundy ones from Hush this year, after resisting last year and regretting it. They have been dispatched but haven't arrived yet, dammit.

I'm 42 and a size 14.

I really, really want them to look nice...

YvaineStormhold · 04/11/2016 16:01

I think in black they might be a bit hard, unless you have the rock chick vibe going on.

I'm hoping burgundy will soften the look.

that's if they go anywhere near me

Fuzzypeggy · 04/11/2016 16:04

I only ever wear mine as casual wear because I think the dressed
Up look is where the try hard problem has potential to pop up

VeryPunny · 04/11/2016 16:11

Am tempted - wouldn't mind spending a bit but they would have to look bloody fabulous. Think you either need to go quite casual or super sophisticated on top for them to work - think chunky jumper or silk camisole with heels.

sighbynight · 04/11/2016 16:18

My blouson dress is blue, so burgundy won't work. It would have to be black. I get the hard comments, though. I don't wear nearly as much black as I used to.

Are the Hush leather leggings over £300?

sighbynight · 04/11/2016 17:08

The Hush ones are 330, yes. So I have gone with the recommended New Look ones at 13.49 (the high waist sold me on them). Then I can try out the general look and decide if I want to invest.

Autograph at M&S have half leather trousers, ponte at the back with a side zip. I'm a 14 and 52 and I love mine with a chunky jumper and boots. They're about £150.
