What age did you stop wearing shorts?

I mean mid-thigh shorts. Not conservative, almost knee-length ones. Nor shorts that show off panties.

OP posts:
SweetChickadee · 04/11/2016 14:13

I'm 40 and wear them all summer (not in the UK). Mid thigh are the most flattering on me. The ones that stop where your inner thigh slightly thins.

Notreallyhappy · 04/11/2016 14:26

Still wear mine @ 49½. Have squat trained legs & OK bottom - not the shorts your bum hangs out of though.

Herhighness · 04/11/2016 14:29

When my legs looked the ones you see on other people at the beach and think " how the hell did they get like that ? ".
I was 37 and a little bit.

Bluntness100 · 04/11/2016 14:40

One things for sure, fake tan is a must for me, nothing orange, but some light st tropez once a week, and legs shaved.

I don't know anyone who wears hot pants. It's not s good look. On anyone.

Although comically I recall going to pick my daughter up from her friends house, her friend was wearing short short pj bottoms, and had to walk up the stairs ahead of me, she took to reaching round with both hands and holding the bottom part down as she walked to try to make herself decent, I was dying to laugh, as made her walk funny, plus I've known her since she was tiny. My comment of " Jesus, what the hell are you wearing, I can see your arse" Didnt help either. 😂

Mid forties and still wear them (Also in the winter with tights.)

But then I think I am a good shape for shorts, especially high waisted, and always feel they look better on me than skirts. Not sure how I'd describe my figure but have decent legs, wide hips and a waist. I guess "hour-glass" (but without the boobs).

FV45 · 04/11/2016 15:43

I am 46 and I wear shorts when it's warm enough.

I also wear tiny shorts for running.

I think I look good in them - far better than some of the really baggy styles of everything that's around.

mudandmayhem01 · 04/11/2016 15:45

Herhighness, do you really look at other peoples legs on the beach and think how did they get like that? I am too busy reading, playing with my kids, having fun to notice other peoples imperfections.

blueskyinmarch · 04/11/2016 15:50

I am age 54 and am sitting at the airport waiting to fly off on holiday. I have several pairs of shorts packed. Surely everyone wears shorts when it is hot?

sofatrainer · 04/11/2016 15:52

I just started wearing them again at 40. I like the look and think they can look quite smart and put together

Bluntness100 · 04/11/2016 15:53

Artandco · 04/11/2016 16:01

Blue - well no, most countries where it's hot, shorts are not worn around town . That's why Italians are always known for being well dressed for example. You wouldn't see any locals wearing a shorts apart from on beach in places like France, Italy, Greece. Then virtually all Asia, Middle East. Shorts are beach wear, if you wear shorts to walk around town or eat lunch out, or go to attractions you look like a tourist straight away

Also legs out in hot countries daily, asking for sunburn

FV45 · 04/11/2016 16:20

Tiny running shorts. nb hard to take photo of arse! They're ok, no?

SansaryaAgain · 04/11/2016 16:24

Just 40 and still wearing shorts!

What age did you stop wearing shorts?
Notfootball · 04/11/2016 16:26

FV45 your shorts are fine and I wear some like that for running. I also wear short shorts (not batty riders) when it's hot in the summer and constantly on holiday. I don't care if I look like a tourist because I am.

Notfootball · 04/11/2016 16:27

Oh and I'm 44.

OhMrsQ · 04/11/2016 16:27

wow you last two ladies have fantastic bums/legs!

I'm 41, and live in shorts most of the year. Changes from hiking boots to flip flops, depending. In California, so that helps.

MaybeDoctor · 04/11/2016 16:33

I am 41 and just started wearing shorts again this summer! Hadn't worn them since 14, but realised that they were a great hot-day outfit.
Neutral shorts from Phase Eight, not too short.

FurryLittleTwerp · 04/11/2016 19:11

I'm early 50s & wear mid-thigh shorts in the garden, for hiking, for popping to scruffier shops - garden centre & local high street. I'm slim & reasonably toned, but have always had cellulite & now have some thread veins as well. My legs look okay, but I'd not like to rub anyone's noses in them!

Grin
rawsienna · 04/11/2016 19:20

You can still wear shorts when you are older, but here are the rules.

Slightly longer. No ass skimmers.
Make sure they are fitting (tapering in) around the thighs and not too baggy.

As women age they lose the plump roundness in the thighs. Flappy shorts make the thighs look too thin. Go for something more fitting.

Eastpoint · 04/11/2016 19:24

48 & still wear them to walk the dogs or on holiday. I don't wear them 'out', I wouldn't go to a restaurant for lunch in them (live in London zone 2).

girlandboy · 04/11/2016 19:27

About 18 I think. I'm 50 now.

I have horrible legs which are always covered in bruises so I don't like to show them.

zippyswife · 04/11/2016 22:42

40 and I'd wear shorts all year round if I could. Love them. I dress very low key though. So short shorts with sweater/t-shirt and converse/Birkenstocks. My legs are by far my best feature so I'm going with it! I'm not planning on stopping wearing shorts anytime soon.

CointreauVersial · 04/11/2016 22:52

Oh FFS.

I'm 49, and still wear them.

DM is 71 and still wears them.

If you have remotely decent legs, keep wearing them.

FWIW, I think long "boy scout" shorts are way more aging than shorter ones.

dudsville · 05/11/2016 12:33

When my knees "filled in". Bleugh. My family have sturdy legs so short skirts and shorts stopped about mid to late 20's

DerelictMyBalls · 05/11/2016 17:27

I'm 42 and wear shorts at every opportunity, weather permitting, including short-shorts and denim hotpants.
