Does anyone moisturise their face daily?

flowerpower668 · 28/10/2016 22:02

I recently got a dry patch on my face and have just started moisturising daily.

Does anyone do this and is it recommended?

If so, what moisturising cream do you use?

Do you use a seperate eye cream?

Have you noticed a difference over a period of time?! (Softer skin, less wrinkles etc)

Thank you Smile

I don't used moisturiser as such, I use oil. I find moisturisers with all those shit chemicals really irritate and dry out my skin.

ProseccoBitch · 29/10/2016 19:18

Yes, twice a day with Astral which is cheap as chips and amazing. I'm 40 and don't have any wrinkles yet. I'm amazed that there's anyone who doesn't moisturise Shock

Bertucci · 29/10/2016 19:20

I am 46 and have moisturised my face twice daily for over 30 years.

lottieandmia · 29/10/2016 19:21

I've been moisturising my face since I was about 12 and I encourage my dd's to do the same now that they are teenagers.

Janey50 · 29/10/2016 19:31

I have used moisturiser on my face every night before going to sleep since I was 12. I am now 53. In the colder months,I also apply moisturiser before going out,as my skin gets sore and dry otherwise. My all-time favourite moisturising cream is Nivea, the one in the bottle, for dry/extra dry skin. I have tried numerous other creams over the last few years but always come back to this one. It's rich without being too heavy, absorbed quite quickly and makes my skin feel comfortable for hours after using it,unlike some others I've tried, which seem to wear off within the hour. Re.eye creams - never bothered with them. And yes,I do think it's helped my skin to stay pretty good for my age. Have been complimented quite often on it. Smile

Hulababy · 29/10/2016 19:42

I use moisturiser every morning after a shower, and most evenings, though not always.

I am 43y and have pretty decent skin (on my face/neck anyway) - fortunately I have never suffered from spots or acne, I don't have particularly dry or oily skin, etc. No wrinkles or anything like that - worst I have is some darkness under my eyes, but can disguise it fairly easily.

Although I do wear make up most days I don't wear very much, and no heavy bases - more likely a thin covering of BB/CC cream than anything else. I do think not using lots of products probably helps.

I drink some water every day but I know not enough!

I don't use any of the expensive stuff at present - tend to use Simple day cream, as easy to order with my Ocado shop. Think it is 15 SPF.

oldlaundbooth · 29/10/2016 19:46

Not daily, if it feels dry then yes.

I do look younger when I use it though.

Serum is good too, I use Biotherm.

oldlaundbooth · 29/10/2016 19:47

As pp's say, Astral and Nivea the are best really.... cheap too. 🍶

MixedUpConfusion · 29/10/2016 20:00

I rarely used moisturiser, only when I remembered/could be bothered, rarely take my makeup off for bed, I was always mistaken for somebody about 15 years younger. I started moisturising last year and got spots. I never usually get spots, my skin is clear. I have oily skin, never smoked or used a sunbed and my DM gave me her good genes. Like a pregions poster I also did the How-old thing. I got 23, 20 and 18. I'm almost 47.

MixedUpConfusion · 29/10/2016 20:01

*previous!

NameChanger22 · 29/10/2016 20:02

I use face oil and a moisturiser. Usually twice a day. I've moistursed since I was really young as I have dry skin.

myfavouritecolourispurple · 29/10/2016 20:36

12 year olds moisturising? Really?

Why?

I was in my mid 20s when I started using Clinique's superskin and then I started using various SPF moisturisers though it's not that easy to find a nice one, it's much easier to find a moisturiser without SPF in it.

I always moisturise first thing, but often don't bother before I go to bed.

myfavouritecolourispurple · 29/10/2016 20:36

I mean the Clinique City Block - not Superskin.

AmserGwin · 29/10/2016 20:39

Yes morning and night. I use vitamin E moisture cream from bodyshop, good for my dry skin as soaks straight in. I use seperate eye cream and will Occasionally use oil or a night cream if my skin is particulary dry.

AmserGwin · 29/10/2016 20:40

Also use pre-moisturising serum also from bodyshop before the moisturiser!

Dowser · 29/10/2016 20:47

I wash my face with a rough flannel every morning and apply my own moisturiser.
When it's had a good soak in i blot and then use foundation , blusher and lipstick.
At bedtime, again a good wash with a rough flannel ( no soap) and then another dollop of my home made moisturiser.
My skin is good for nearly 65.
I don't look 25, 35, 45 or 55 possibly 57-58 ish

Prior to my own moisturiser my face often used to feel dry. It doesn't now.

Somanyvipers · 29/10/2016 20:52

Olay or coconut oil when I can be bothered. Staying out of the sun, genetics, a healthy diet and regular exercise are key, and but if people like expensive potions and time consuming rituals......

squoosh · 29/10/2016 20:59

'12 year olds moisturising? Really?

Well presumably because they've got dry skin! I was certainly using a moisturiser at that age as my skin would feel horribly tight and dry after showering, swimming etc. It's only face cream, not botox!

BIWI · 30/10/2016 08:09

Yes Boots would have funded the trial! Clinical trials are very expensive because they
HAVE to follow certain protocols.

You can't launch any product with some kind of pharmaceutical benefit or claim without proof that the product does what you're telling people it does. Boots wouldn't have had (or been able to have) any influence over the trial.

(I don't work for Boots, by the way, but I do know how strictly run and monitored such trials are)

spankhurst · 30/10/2016 08:28

Just as a side note, I had flu in my 20s and was unable to do anything to my skin for a week or so. It looked bloody amazing. But I was very young at the time which probably helped!

Titsywoo · 30/10/2016 08:31

I moisturise once or twice a week. I splash water on my face then rub it with a clean towel to wash it. Don't wear makeup much though. I have the best skin of most of my friends my age so not planning to make any changes soon!

Floisme · 30/10/2016 09:46

Twice a day. It makes my skin feel smoother and less tight but I've no illusions about any long term benefits - it's just the immediate effect that I like. I would say, use one if your skin feels better afterwards but otherwise, I wouldn't bother. But I would always use a sunscreen because that's been proven to work.

Dowser · 30/10/2016 12:33

Can't get away with Nivea. It feels like lard on my face and drags the skin.
The moisturiser I make myself has shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, wheat germ, jojoba, evening primrose, a bit of neem and a tub of Lavera as my base.
This is allegedly all natural and was formulated by a German guy who suffered with bad eczema so he formulated his own products. It's cheap as chips. I couldn't use it on its own so I put all my ingredients in a big mixing bowl and beat it all up like cake mixture. Then I add frankincense essential oil
When it feels about right I stop adding things.
It goes in a big tub in the fridge and then I take a small pot full to keep in the bathroom.
I make it 2-3 times a year.
It probably costs about ten pounds a tub. Hard to say as I have all the oils in the house.

So £20- £30 a year can't be bad.
Never have a bad reaction. Rarely get a spot.
So will stick with it.

PollyPerky · 30/10/2016 12:35

I think it all depends on your skin type. Mine feels taut after using micellar water or most cleansers where water is involved. Or even after getting my face wet when hair washing. If it didn't I'd not feel the need to slap something on.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 30/10/2016 12:37

I have to warm up Nivea the way you warm up Creme de la Mer, so it won't drag.
