Does anyone moisturise their face daily?

I recently got a dry patch on my face and have just started moisturising daily.

Does anyone do this and is it recommended?

If so, what moisturising cream do you use?

Do you use a seperate eye cream?

Have you noticed a difference over a period of time?! (Softer skin, less wrinkles etc)

Thank you Smile

Occasionally if nose is itchy. Past my half century and less wrinkled than many. Wear sunscreen, dont smoke, have right parents.

That's all that helps unless you want face freezing or facelift.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/10/2016 22:30

I'm 46 and have been moisturising twice a day for the last 35 years.

flowerpower668 · 28/10/2016 22:33

Dame- how is your skin looking now?

My worst nightmare is my dark circles under my eyes! If only a miracle cream can be invented to remove them (my circles not my eyes Blush)

I did twice a day from late teens until earlier this year (early 30s) but earlier this year i realised my skin was much better through the day, way less shiny, if i didn't moisturise in the morning. I tried several mattifying moisturisers as well, made no difference.

I now only moisturise at night, if i remember. I do use a foundation with an spf though.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/10/2016 22:37

You need Revlon eye primer , incredible stuff.

Doobigetta · 28/10/2016 23:55

I've used some kind of moisturiser daily since I was about 13. Never felt the need for it at night until my late 30s. My moisturiser and foundation have sun protection built in, and I only use a separate sunscreen on holiday or if I'm going to be outdoors for a few hours in summer. I think it's overkill to wear it every day in our grey climate. I do use eye cream religiously though, have done for 15 years or so, and either that or wearing sunglasses if it's even slightly bright has left me with very few crows' feet.

CointreauVersial · 29/10/2016 00:11

OP, I only started using moisturiser in my 20s - like you, I started getting dry patches.

Now I'm 49 it's critical, unless I want my face to fall off.

Just choose something age-appropriate - can be fairly light. Should also contain sun screen....

PickAChew · 29/10/2016 00:16

I moisturise daily with the plain simple yellow clinique stuff that lasts forever, but only started about your age.

I had the ultimate combination skin on my late 20s and exfoliation with a salicylic acid product got it back into balance, as it both removed flaky patches and unclogged pores.

BIWI · 29/10/2016 08:06

Dark circles under your eyes can also be a sign of dehydration - try drinking more. (This will help with your skin anyway!)

I don't bother with eye cream. Or rather, I did, but never got into the habit of using it.

In terms of creams being useless, the reason I use the Boots ones is that they actually did conduct clinical trials on their creams. As far as I know, they're the only company that's actually done this, and the trials (which are very strictly monitored) proved the benefit of the product.

BIWI · 29/10/2016 08:08

Here you go Note that the trial was carried out by the University of Manchester, and not Boots themselves!

I was really lucky always had great skin but a few years ago started getting dry patches was also starting to get lines. I'm 37. I was sporadic with my moisturising.
Now I use a glycolic face wash every day, glycolic pads, a serum and a moisturiser with spa in the morning and serum and a night cream at night. Was just looking at myself in the mirror last night and couldn't believe how clear my skin looks and my complexion is much more even. I don't buy expensive products. Currently using a mixture of nip and fab, nivea and superdug own. I don't use a special eye cream just make sure I moisturise around my eyes properly.

burnishedsilver · 29/10/2016 08:24

I thought everyone moisturised daily.

burnishedsilver · 29/10/2016 08:28

Any chance you're low on iron?
My persistent dark circles turned out to totally down to low iron.

ThinkOfTheMice · 29/10/2016 08:28

Most moisturisers are similar whether cheap or expensive- just try a few and buy one you like. None work miracles, they don't penetrate the skin enough. Buy one in a tube not a jar - dipping fingers in it turns it into bacterial and fungal soup.
I just wash face with water in the morning in my shower and with a gentle cleanser in the evening then apply moisturiser before bed. Nothing fancy. I use soap sometimes. I'm almost 40, no wrinkles.

Also, stay out of the sun and use sun cream/spf. The biggest agers of skin are uv and smoking. Don't ever tan, don't ever smoke. Don't drink too much. Eat well, plenty of good fats and veg, not too much sugar. The rest is genetics.

If it's going to be very cold the next day (-10 or below, it gets to -30 here) I put a fat based cream on my face in the evening do it has time to sink in.

PollyPerky · 29/10/2016 08:32

Sunscreen: you need something other than what's in a moisturiser unless you are applying it over the day.
I used Clinique City Block for about 25 years since my 30s but the formula seems yellower now and it darkens my foundation so I've changed to Skinceuticals. My foundation also has spf 30.

Sunscreen is really important along with diet and general lifestyle stuff.

You won't feel the need now, but in 20-30 years' time you will see the difference. Not boasting but people think I am 15 years younger than I am.

I put a lot of this down to genes- my mum's almost 90 and looks 10 yrs younger at least, but I do take care of my skin.

You don't have to use moisturiser if your skin doesn't need it. My gran used to wash her face all her life with soap and water and then dab on cold cream and she had beautiful skin.

But sunscreen is the main thing.

VintagePerfumista · 29/10/2016 08:33

I turned 51 on Tuesday and no-one believed me at work that I was that old. I have cleansed and moisturised since I was about 10. I remember my Mum giving me a bottle of (iirc) Nivea lotion and we "creamed" our face together. Smile

I am currently using Body Shop Chamomile butter to cleanse, alternating with Superdrug Vit E wash off cleanser. Sometimes I double cleanse. Olay acid toner ( an acid tonermakes a huge difference and has put an end to those dreadful gritty exfoliator thingies) Boots Lift and Luminate serum, then Neal's Yard Frankincense in the morning and L'Occitane Divine at night. (because the NY used to be my Holy grail about 20 yrs ago and I have a pot left, but in all honesty, the Divine knocks its socks off)

LightTheLampNotTheRat · 29/10/2016 08:42

I would have such unhappy skin if I didn't moisturise. My face feels horribly tight and dry within minutes after washing it (I use Nivea creamy face wash for dry skin) - moisturiser has been part of my daily routine since I was about 15. (Am now 44 and probably look exactly my age!)

I use a different moisturiser for day and night. L'Oréal Activ Futur for day (feels and smells lovely), Boots number 7 night cream.

BusterGonad · 29/10/2016 08:42

I cleanse with baby lotion, not johnsons as it's too harsh, the remainder of my eye make up is removed with Simple eye make up remover and I moisturize with either Aveeno, The Body Shop Aloe Vera cream or Vitimin E cream which ever is on offer at the time of needing some more.

BusterGonad · 29/10/2016 08:44

Oh and I've done this since I was about 13 I'm now 40. I've always used baby lotion as a cream cleanser but the moisturizers have changed over the years. I have good skin. Very soft.

Inthenick · 29/10/2016 08:45

I never moisturise, maybe once ever few months before I put on a rare face of makeup. I look no different to my peers (mid 30's). When I go for a rare facial the beautician always says 'you have lovely skin, you must moisturise a lot'.

I think it's all just a load of chemicals packaged up and preying on people's insecurities.

Inthenick · 29/10/2016 08:47

Just imagine the sheer amount of chemicals people who moisturise daily put into their bodies! And some people do body lotions, perfume, fake tan, makeup etc daily too.

LightTheLampNotTheRat · 29/10/2016 08:55

I don't get the insecurities comment. As I said, my skin is very dry and feels really tight and uncomfortable without moisturiser. I'm not trying to halt the ageing process, just have comfortable skin. Other people - obviously - have less dry skin and so presumably need less moisturiser.

VintagePerfumista · 29/10/2016 08:57

Not all chemicals are harmful, not all natural things are good.

Hemlock anyone? Grin

Squirrelsmum · 29/10/2016 08:57

Each evening after my shower I apply a combination of oils to my face while my skin is still damp.
It's a mix of jojoba, rose hip, almond and apricot kernel in a pump bottle.
I have oily skin but at 40+ I figure I'd rather pimples than wrinkles. I don't have either thankfully.

My2centsworth · 29/10/2016 09:00

I rarely use moisture in winter. I use it as sunscreen in summer. I use really good foundation and it is nicer without moisturiser. I think like most of the skincare 'promises' it is mostly placebo.
