Do these tend to wear pretty well? I haven't owned a watch in years Blush so a little clueless. Thanks Smile

Yes, DH has had one for years. It still looks great. And gets lots of positive comments.

OhFuckOff · 19/10/2016 16:39

Thank you Smile it's a nice dainty looking watch, my other option is a Casio digital Grin

Yes, both dp and myself wear skagen watches and we love them

TheFairyCaravan · 19/10/2016 16:42

I bought one for DS2 last Christmas. I was really impressed by it, the face is really, really thin and looks much more expensive than it actually was. I got it from watchshop.com. It was about £50 cheaper than everywhere else.

Sovain · 19/10/2016 16:46

DS has a couple. The leather straps didn't last long though and we're pricey to replace.

Sovain · 19/10/2016 16:47

Uh, it was DH not DS.

They were not we're.

I've got one and it's stunning. But the leather strap is wearing away and I was horrified to find it was going to cost me about £30 to buy new straps and another £30 to get them fitted (by skagen themselves). The straps I think are hard to come by.

I've love to get it sorted but I'd be almost better off getting a new one.

My parents each have a number of metal-strapped watches and swear by them for quality. Perhaps a better option than leather give some of the above posts

UtahGirl12 · 19/10/2016 19:04

I have 2 and love them. Bought both from John Lewis. My silver one had little "joking" diamonds around the face. Over time (years) I lost one of them, so took it back in to John Lewis, (well out of warranty etc). JL said they had to send it back to Skagen to get a quote of how much it would be to repair, but Skagen did it for free!

mando12345 · 19/10/2016 19:06

I've had a silver metal skagen watch for several years, wear it all the time.
Very pleased with it, I do get compliments for it.

mooimevrouw · 19/10/2016 19:08

I have one and it's lovely! Metal strap and has still looks great!

TerriB84 · 19/10/2016 20:07

My DH has had 2 - a leather strap one and a metal strap. They are lovely watches and he likes the brand because he hates how chunky a lot of other male watches are. The metal strap one has definitely worn better. The only issue he's had is finding someone willing to replace the battery because of how thin and delicate the watch face is.

MorrisZapp · 19/10/2016 20:09

I adore my Skagen. Mine has a brown leather strap, looks better with age. I bought it from a Skagen shop which I must say was quite a thrill!

MsMillyMollyMandy · 20/10/2016 07:58

I have one with a metal mesh strap which is about 15 years old and still looks good. I have cleaned the strap with an old toothbrush and some fairy liquid and it comes up like new. My daughter bought me a lovely leather strap one for Xmas last year - large plain gold face and brown leather strap. The leather has softened and darkened but looks good. She always does her Xmas shopping on Black Friday so I expect you might get a good deal on a Skagen if you can wait that long.

Giselaw · 20/10/2016 08:04

I've got one that's about 20 years but I do need a new strap every few years. Maybe I just have sweaty wrists though Smile. Straps are usually 10-20£ directly from their shop, where they replace them on premises

OhFuckOff · 20/10/2016 08:07

It's a metal mesh strap one that I have my eye on. Thanks everyone Smile

I've got one (but leather strap) and love it.

CallarMorvern · 20/10/2016 15:01

DH is a watch obsessive and has a few, both metal and leather, they have all been reliable and look good. My parents have one each, they've been happy with them asfaik.

JaceLancs · 20/10/2016 21:43

Anyone know how the plating wears I would like as an everyday watch as my ancient gold watch is only really suitable for occasional wear
I like the gold plated versions but have allergies and don't want it to look shabby too quickly

mando12345 · 21/10/2016 09:05

My dm has a gold plated skagen watch she has worn easily for years, still as new.

CallarMorvern · 23/10/2016 04:17

DM's still looks new and she's had it for years, DH doesn't have a gold watch of any make in his collection.

newroundhere · 23/10/2016 04:29

I've had a couple of Skagen watches and I wouldn't have another one - especially not a leather strapped one. Getting a replacement strap is a real pain (and expensive) as they don't have standard fittings - in the past even the Skagen shop has had to send my watch away to get a new leather strap fitted Hmm. Also, I cracked the glass on a watch once and they weren't able to replace it, which seemed pretty poor.

They look good as watches but from my perspective they have been more trouble than they're worth.
