Heated straightening brush?

She thinks it will straighten her hair...I think she is on a hiding to nothing

Any clue which of us is right?

They are crap. Total waste of money

I imagine they won't work because they don't grip the hair. I haven't tried one though

I've got one of these. My hair is fairly curly and quite long. I really like it and find it less damaging than straighteners. It certainly doesn't make my hair poker straight but it takes the frizz out and makes it straight-ish. I don't think it would work on Afro hair.
You can't use them from wet, have to blow dry first. HTH.

I gently suggested that she might be being unrealistic & I'd ask 'Mumsnet'

My DD has one of these, they are complete rubbish, don't waste your money, it has been used once

DD is a bit upset & annoyed I'm always right

She is better off investing in a good Parlux hairdryer and learning to blow dry her hair straight (I have really curly hair) then just use the straightens to finish off. Limits the damage way better

I don't think her hair would blow dry - we never have I think it would break - but thank you

I like mine. But I have v thick wavy/curly hair and if I want to look less wild and woolly this is tons quicker but not as effective as blow drying. Depends on time and mood but it gives me another option.

Ive got one and its really good. Best for thick wavy/hair that takes forever to straighten I think. If you have fine hair, or want to go poker straight - then straighteners.

Oh, and I also use a Parlux hair dryer. Also really good.

DD is afro (photos on my profile) so I don't know if that affects it

We straightened it once - it took about 5 hours

Me too Feck. Just got a diffuser for mine which is fab. Gone curly again after a few years in the groomed wilderness

you can get them on Amazon for under £20 - so not to spend to much dosh. I think they're like anything, work well for some, not so much for others.

I like them. Doesn't do glass straight, but that's not what I want. Very fast.

Although just noticed you said your daughter has Afro hair. Can't see how it would work well on that.
