Can I wear a mini skirt at my age?

I'm over 45, slim (ish) and have my eye on a winter mini skirt - one of the more casual skirts in a tweedy material and in a slightly longer length than usual - think mid thigh as opposed to bum skimming.

I would wear it with thick dark tights (so you wouldn't see any bare leg )and boots or block heel shoes.

I wear a lot of tunic type tops over jeggings most winters and this mini skirt is longer than most of the tunics I wear, so I'm thinking why not?

But, should I? Would you?

I really want to

I am 42 and have just bought a skirt of a similar length to wear with opaque tights and boots, so I say yes.
Women should wear what they feel happy in.

Kikibanana86 · 14/10/2016 12:05

You can wear whatever you like at at age!

AuntieStella · 14/10/2016 12:06

I would and I do, and I'm older than you.

Always with thick (usually cable knit) tights, and it's no more revealing (or inappropriate) than a tunic with skinniest or leggings.

Lweji · 14/10/2016 12:06

I should hope so.

What's that about bare leg?

Ahem.

starsinyourpies · 14/10/2016 12:08

Yes!

Floisme · 14/10/2016 12:08

If I still had the legs, hell yeah.

daydreamnation · 14/10/2016 12:09

44 here and still wearing skirts just below my bum! Always with 100 denier tights and Chelsea or desert style boots. Thankfully I still have the same great legs that I've always had but sadly my face gives away my age Grin

I made the mistake of reading a Daily Maila rticle yesterday saying that bare legs are in and opaques are out and there's no way I'm wearing a mini with bare legs! A Pencil skirt with bare legs yes.

I know I shouldn't believe the crap they write in the Daily Mail.

I'm 52.

Over 45 sounded better than over 50 Blush

I'm also in my 50s...

burnishedsilver · 14/10/2016 12:48

Yes, with thick tights.
There is always the option to let the hem down if you feel you want a little more length.

ItGoesWithoutSaying · 14/10/2016 12:52

Late Mid forties and, yes, I do. I also wear mini-dresses and shorts with tights.

I think they suit me, my legs are good, and so will continue. Ignore anything in the Daily Mail - especially when it gets into woman-shaming.

neveradullmoment99 · 14/10/2016 13:24

Yes, i am 48 and would wear it but only with thick tights. Why the hell not. My legs are still my best feature.

Nearlyadoctor · 14/10/2016 16:36

I'm 45 and still wear short skirts - never without opaque's though. My legs look great in tights and therefore happy to wear short skirts in the winter but in the summer prefer a skirt to be at least mid knee with bare legs!

Never I guessed from the 'Hush' threads and our previous wardrobe choices we must be similar ages Grin

I'm 51 and I'd wear it. I love short skirts with opaque tights, boots and a roll neck &/or a thick jumper/cardigan

I am also in my early 50s and just yesterday I bought two new skirts of the length you describe plus some new tights. I'm looking forward to wearing them. Go for it!

RonSwansonsBestFriend · 14/10/2016 17:01

YES! go for it. IMHO skirts look better when mini with tights, otherwise you kind of lose the leg a bit, unless you have lovely, long calves..... mine are bowed and short

brandyandsummergloves · 14/10/2016 17:10

I wear short skirts with thick tights and boots. I'm 55 this weekend. Legs are the last things to go Wink

PollysPoppy · 14/10/2016 17:10

Definitely okay to wear!

However, a question .... what style of boots are you all wearing with shorter skirts and opaques? Long, ankle, heeled or flat or whatever suits?

1smartyMCflurry · 14/10/2016 19:30

I'm going for it.
It looked good on and I felt rightit in, so I'm buying it.
Thanks!

Chelsea boots would look good as well as longer boots.

Yes, me too.

1smartyMCflurry · 14/10/2016 22:14

I've bought a knee length pencil skirt as well, (with a sexy slit in it) which I will be wearing with bare legs Grin as it looks amazing and I still have the legs for it even though the rest of the bod has gone to seed
