Scalp micro pigmentation for women

Hello,
I cannot broach this topic with anyone, not even my partner, so go easy on me.

I've always been conscious of my scalp. I have very thin/sparse hair on top and my part is quite wide. My scalp is glaringly obvious and I feel massively self conscious of it.

I've been offered scalp micro pigmentation by a friend of a friend and it will cost me £360. Apparently is lasts 3-7 years but I'll need £150 of top ups every 12 months.

Does anyone have any experience of it? Or know anyone who has? I'm worried I'll end up with a dirty looking head and it will be even more obvious. The before and after photos on google look promising. But I may have trouble justifying this amount of money on what is basically cosmetics to my husband.

Hi delilah, I didn't want your post to be unanswered. I feel for you as my hair is also thinning. I suspect that the scalp pigmentation will be much like using the thickening powders such as Toppik, not sure if you are familiar with those? Is your hair dark? If it is the pigmentation may be more effective. I don't have any personal experience of it but wanted to offer my thoughts.

Yes it's naturally dark which makes my white scalp look more obvious.

I have naturally very dark hair, but started to get white hairs at 16 and, after literally decades of keeping it dark, have opted for a dark blonde - the bronde of middle age. Would you be able to change colour at a later date if you wanted to lighten your hair or let it go grey?

I've spent the last few months looking into training in semi permanent make up. I'm not doing the scalp pigmentation course, but it seems to be gaining in popularity. You could find one of the reputable training courses and offer to be a case study for one of the students once they've finished training. that would mean your initial treatment and first top up would probably just cost what it would to cover their costs. Or you could offer to be a model for the class. Being a model in class means an inexperienced technician, but very close supervision from a trainer, whereas being a case study would mean the technician will have completed a few prodcedures and had more practice on artifical skin, mannequin head etc, but won't have a trainer with them.

I don't know what the pigment retention is like for scalp procedures as it's not my current area of interest. I'm guessing, if she's recommended annual top ups that pigment is pushed out more quickly than on the face - which in financial terms may be a pain, but hopefully it would mean that colour adjustments would be made as your hair changes colour/greys.
