Bobbi Brown corrector. Am I doing it wrong?

Purchased my first Bobbi Brown product in the corrector cream. However, it seems quite cakey? I am only placing a small amount concealer over it. Any tips at all?

It is quite thick but ought not to be hard or cakey. Have you kept it somewhere really cold??? I find all my make up is easier to blend if it's kept in a warmer room.
I apply the corrector with my ring finger and pat it on. Sometimes I use one of their brushes - concealer brush- to apply.

I find it quite cakey too unless the skin is well moisturised. I'm thinking of investing in a brush.
