49 and no skincare routine!

Can you lovely mumsnetters give me some advice, please?

I am 49 and have never really had a skincare routine. Luckily though, I have no forehead wrinkles and only a slight wrinkle below my right eye - I also have a few laughter lines. I rarely wear make-up - just occasional lippy and mascara when shopping.

I have noticed that I have a few broken veins on my upper cheeks and these, to me, are a little red and unsightly. I tried a mineral face powder from Jerome Alexander, which looks okay on application but doesn't last. I am also beginning to get the 'crepey' lines on my decolletage. My skin is generally normal - no real oil / dry patches.

I think I need a simple / inexpensive range to use to keep the skin supple and also any info on decent 'cover-up' products that don't make me look too heavily made up. Trouble is there are so many products out there now I do not know where to start. Confused

Please help! Thank you

I though my skin was pretty good until I started following Caroline Hirrons advice. My skin is so much better now. It just somehow looks fresher and brighter.

I was interested in that Caroline hirons link but I found it utterly bamboozling! I have rosacea and the thought of finding products that suit that and fit her suggestions made me anxious!

I am 49 and i use nip and fab glycolic pads extreme at least once a day [ unless i have used the nip and fab night cream as I dont like to mix any retinol product with glycolic and the night cream - in the black container, has it in it]. As a moisturiser during the day i love no 7 protect and perfect. My skin is the best its looked. I am prone to break outs and have very few. My pores are more refined.

That link says not to put your face under the shower. I fear at 45 that I have done this a few thousand times too many to claw my way back from..!

Good cover ups -(concealers) Bobbi Brown concealer, Laura Mercier, Laura Geller, Tarte, Estee Lauder, Clinique. Also if Benefit still do their buff/bluff? yellow stick concealer that hides redness (they did a powder too.

Bare minerals neutralising primer and their original powder. Laura Geller - the glow one not the original. Cannot remember name. Ot Tarte foundation whick lasts quite a time. In the brown tube.

My favourite cleanser in a micellar - Garnier oil in water (not greasy though. Great for eyes and face.
