Silk square advice

I'd like to get accessorised, and I'm quite inspired by all the scarf love blogs. My question is this - I've seen a design I like a lot in a museum gift shop - if I spend £100 on a silk square ('hand rolled' apparently) will it let me down badly? I see that connoisseurs think they should cost more, but I'm a beginner.

Bump for daytime - this is one fast moving board!

Hi - not sure what you mean by 'will it let me down badly?' £100 seems an awful lot to spend on a scarf. Why not try cheaper ones first to see if you like the style? Try ebay etc, loads of choice there. I've amassed a lovely collection of scarves, silk and otherwise, from charity shops, and in fact have sold Burberry ones and suchlike on ebay myself. Silk scarves should always be hand rolled, as it's the only way to hem them and keep the drape, but it applies to cheaper ones too!

Good perspective. I'm not sure what I'm concerned about - not thick? not supple? not hard wearing? I don't know - it just seems as though some of them cost much more. I may well be out of my depth!

My GM was an avid silk scarf lover, she had a lot of 'cheapies' for fun (usually gifts) and then the more high end ones. I'd start with the fun ones and educate yourself a bit on what you'd want from one and how it would fit in your wardrobe, etc. before committing to a big purchase right off the bat.

The Purse Forum might be a better place to ask more specific questions and discuss with enthusiasts and experts. I know they have a very dedicated Hermes Scarf thread on there but this section seems to cover multiple brands.

Ha! The very first thread I opened on the "multiple brands" section started with someone looking at something in the region of £100, and the next poster saying not to bother and to save up for Hermes instead! I'll have a closer look later...
