Smart wool coats for petites? Teen range? Not oversized!

Have any of you seen wool coats likely to fit a petite 5'2 size 8 frame? I've ordered a few now and all have been really oversized and look ridiculous. I've been scouring the internet but can't find anything!

I'd like a navy one and a light grey one Smile

This is a perennial problem, am looking for the same.

In the past I've only found well fitting winter coats from Mango or Zara - although Warehouse size 6 and Top Shop 6 or 8 come up quite small too.

Unless you know a decent seamstress for alterations don't bother with M&S, Whistles, Reiss, Hobbs, Jigsaw etc. They're huge.

RaisingSteam · 05/10/2016 17:03

I was going to say Land's End do petite sizes, that's where I got my winter coat, but they seem to have disappeared from current ranges Sad. Plenty in the sale although mostly in colours not neutrals.

Next have some but if you want pure wool that will cost a bit.

RaisingSteam · 05/10/2016 17:10

Debenhams "collection"?.

seri0usly · 10/10/2016 12:44

Thanks for the suggestions, still searching.

I may have to resort to a seamstress Confused

NewLook currently have long wool coats in navy, black, grey, khaki, claret, camel. I am 5'2 & the 10 is perfect.

Djangor · 10/10/2016 13:44

My best fitting jacket came from New Look years ago so worth a look there. I more or less gave up on coats & wore coatigans for ages as you can turn up the sleeves & they look OK. Then I had a city break in Vienna, went into a department store to escape the snow & there was a sale on. Got the most beautiful Loden coat - meant for age 14. Bargain price in the sale, perfect fit & easily my best clothing buy ever but not particularly helpful for you - unless you are off to Austria soon - or can find your way around Austrian websites!

MrsJayy · 10/10/2016 13:46

Gawd sake me too i was in today and they are either too long or capey im 4ft 11 i look ridiculous in a capey coat. Teen range is longer too i tried 1 on in new look

HalfStar · 02/11/2016 11:24

Just wondering if anyone has had any further luck with a decent wool coat? I've my heart set on something from Jigsaw but I know it would have to be altered significantly and I'm wondering if it would look awful after spending all that money :( I don't like how thin and shapeless a lot of the cheaper petite range coats feel but maybe that is the way forward.

dontcallmelen · 02/11/2016 18:16

I have the same problem am 4ft10, I did get a wool coat from Hobbs last year the length was fine, had the sleeves altered by a seamstress as they ended at my fingertips 😃
Sometimes topshop/miss selfridge petite section can be worth a trawl through, I feel your pain OP it's a bloody nightmare being small.
Whilst I'm on a roll anyone had any joy with slim fitting leather boots? my calves measure 12.5" with jeans on.

BlueEyedWonder · 02/11/2016 22:13

I'm 5ft and size 6-8.
It's a nightmare.
Boden petite is worth a look. I got a mid length military coat from Next petite last week. Topshop petite can be good for parka style coats.

HighDataUsage · 03/11/2016 06:26

dontcallmelen try Boden (Johnnie B) and Next teens range for slim fitting teen boots.

MassDebate · 03/11/2016 10:50

It depends on your budget but as a 5'3" size 6-8 I can recommend JCrew (tbf I recommend JCrew for everything because I love their clothes and find the sizing spot on for petites, although I also often buy from the standard range). Also Hugo Boss - I have a gorgeous coat from there which fits really well. They tend to come on the slim side ime so size up if you want to accommodate bulky jumpers underneath.

ToastieRoastie · 03/11/2016 21:06

dontcallmelen Jones Bootmaker does boots with slim fit around calves and ankles. They usually end in a 'S' - e.g. the Petrona S boot.

ToastieRoastie · 03/11/2016 21:08

seri0usly Warehouse size 6 can be ok. Also Banana Republic petite if budget can stretch to it (I only buy in sale)

HalfStar · 04/11/2016 09:43

Does anyone know about Johnnie B sizing? I'm 5'2 size vanity 6 or normal 8. I'm considering one of the boys' parkas which looks nice and warm. Do I need age 13-14 or 15-16?

dottyaboutstripes · 04/11/2016 10:06

Half I'd go for the smaller option, 15-16 is massive on me and I'm 5ft1 size 10
I completely love my Jaeger coat, however I think it might have been a random style which had perfect sleeve length and coat length without meaning to be petite? You have to size right down though as Jaeger are ENORMOUS!

HalfStar · 04/11/2016 10:24

that's great - thanks for the reply dotty. Jaeger coat sounds like a great find, lucky you!

FrownsAndDimples · 04/11/2016 19:53

I've found my people. This season I have ordered from all the reliable petite places I know of and could bank on previously but all if it had to go back.

There seems to be a trend for boyfriend fit/cocoon coats which does me no favours. It makes me look even smaller. And everything is super long in length too. I ordered 4 coats from next petite and they were down to my ankle!

Have been getting away with coatigans but really want a warm coat now! Something fitted and stylish.

dontcallmelen · 04/11/2016 23:56

Many thanks high & toast will check them out.

Littlelondoner · 05/11/2016 08:19

Bannana republic is generally good for peritesm unsure what coats have this season but years past been great

PrincessWizard · 05/11/2016 13:23

I got a grey one a couple of years ago from New Look's teen range. I love it.

DH thought me having to get an age 14-15 coat was hilarious Hmm Grin

MandyFl0ss · 05/11/2016 14:44

Size 10 shorty here
I usually have some success with Masimmo Dutti and Boden Petite. Gap also has some Petite stuff.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 05/11/2016 17:37

Benetton is worth a look. I've abandoned my lust for a camel coat (as per another thread I was on) and have an order in for this beauty which I have tried on (just over 5ft, sleeves aren't too long, nice length). It comes in a gazillion colours (including navy and grey OP). Fabric is a decent composition for the price too (€120 for 60% wool iirc).
